This is the way flying should be!

What a nice advertisement. Much better than most of the airline advertisements today.

As far as print ads go, back in the 1950's (the REAL glory days) TWA had the best. These are some of the dozens I've found so far:

Best bill of fare in the air. TWA 1953. Stewardess with food. Route map at bottom.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T20/T2096-72dpi.jpeg

Easy Street - 1953. TWA 1953. Constellation landing. Route map at bottom.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T20/T2094-72dpi.jpeg

Weather has its brighter side. TWA 1953. Constellation in flight.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T23/T2358-72dpi.jpeg

Old folks at home. TWA 1953. Older couple aboard aircraft.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T23/T2359-72dpi.jpeg

Every day is SUN day. TWA 1952. Couple aboard aircraft - sun shining through window.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T23/T2355-72dpi.jpeg

Sigh... we'll never see those days again. (sniff, sniff)

Iam so appalled with NWA getting rid of their former truly excellent livery, uniforms and the 'orient'. Now the airline is just trash. The old nwa had a real nice feel to it but now i just see it as the typical large airline that just doesnt give a flyin rat about their passengers.

Thanks for sharing the NW ads with us..........they are really "GROOVY". Never realized that their slogan was ever "come up where the living is beautiful". I remember their slogan around that time being:

We give you half the world, we are Northwest Orient.

I flew with NW in the early 1970s, with my mom, from JFK to SEA on a 747, there were maybe 40 or 50 pax on the aircraft......it continued on to Tokyo. We sat in first class, and the leg room was nothing special, that was before sleeper seats and individual seats, etc.

From the site where I found the TWA ads posted above, here are some for Northwest.

East meets West... on the Orient Express. Northwest Airlines 1952. Geisha Girl and New York model with umbrellas behind globe.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T15/T1544-72dpi.jpeg

All the way...to the Orient. Northwest Orient Airlines, 1953. Statue of Liberty and Oriental with route map at the bottom.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T15/T1543-72dpi.jpeg

Fifth Avenue to Fujiyama... in 2305 minutes. Northwest Orient Airlines 1953. Northwest plane flying between Empire State Building and Mount Fuji in the far distance.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T22/T2287-72dpi.jpeg

Sunny side up! Northwest Airlines 1953. Plane flies past sun with man's face in it.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T22/T2288-72dpi.jpeg

Two-story penthouse... with wings. Northwest Airlines 1953. Interiorof aircraft.

http://scriptorium.lib.duke.edu:80/adaccess/T/T22/T2289-72dpi.jpeg

BTW, I would have posted he actual ads (instead of links) but it would have taken forever for the thread to load.
