As we were waiting to takeoff at Midway this afternoon in flight 1418 (NWA dc-9) to DTW a 727 took off ahead of us with the name "Sporthawk". Anybody know anything about this plane?

It is operated by the company Skyservice in Canada. they also opereate SkyService Charter and air ambulance. Sport hawk is for shipping the Hockey teams and basket ball teams to their meetings. I know this by working with Sky service

No i am sorry I have no clue. it could have been used for a sports team based out of the states. This aircraft is outfitted with the highest standards of comfort. for the basket ball plyers and the hockey players as well. Service is also done by a select group of flight attendants that apply and get picked to work these flights.

Hi Don, I too work for Skyservice and am qualified on Sporthawk. Yes, we do fly the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays, The Ottawa Senators, the Calgary Flames, ...there are other teams we fly, but these are our regulars. It's kind of fun to get to know what guys like Vince Carter drinks. Most guys have their "regular seats on board" . There is also a Sporthawk USA division, they are based in the US and fly a lot of the US teams around; they have 2 B-727's. As Airman99o stated, the aircraft are luxurious and although the 727 older, the maintencance standards are exceedingly high. I guess it would have to be with so many famous teams utilizing the operation. We get a lot of layovers in the cities where games are, but only if our teams are on the road. Sometimes, if we fly from YYZ- to other eastern cities, we just drop the guys off, wait at the airport and take them home after the game.
The service on these flights is highly demanding. Anything over 50 mins gets a ground service: usually chicken and beef burritos/cold drinks. Ater take off, a choice of hot dinner, salad, bread, chocolate cream pie, hot cookies and milk, ice cream bars and drinks....get your roller blades on because you need them. Somehow we manage to do it! All in 55 minutes and that does not include climb and descent. Cheers!

Chicago Blackhawks bound for Detroit?

I thought though that Detroit played in Chicago though(unfortunately i was working so i didn't see the game, i don't see much preseason games) Or perhaps the Red Wings used it if they did play there. They share a DC-9-51 with the Detroit Tigers painted up with Red Wings and Tiger's symbols with Little Caesar on the tail. But I think Tigers played a game that day too somewhere and may have been using the DC-9, so perhaps REd Wings used it. I thought however that Red Wings charter Champion Air when their plane is in use by the Tigers or out of service like it was last winter when it blew an engine when the Red Wings were bound from San Jose to Van Couver.
