Interesting, so Cathay will order even more freighters. Apparently Cathay has good faith in a recovery of the cargo market in the next few years.

When will be delivered the first airline 748 not including Lutfhansa?

Just to confirm, only these 3 airlines have firmo orders for the type, right?:

-Lufthansa
-Air China
-Korean

Best wishes, Leonardo.

Four with Arik Air.

And while not yet firmed, Transaero claims they'll take delivery of four 747-8i aircraft.

Because the tabulation number RC564 is also mentioned, the next sequential number for the 747-867F series, I am pretty sure it's an additional freighter (option converted in an order ?) and not a 747-867 Intercontinental.

Below is the provisional Tabulation Number block allocation for the 747-8 series :

747-8 Intercontinental : RC001 until/incl. RC500

- RC001 until/incl. RC020 BBJ
- RC021 until/incl. RC050 Lufthansa
- RC051 until/incl. RC065 Korean Airlines
- RC066 until/incl. RCxxx Air China

747-8 Freighter : RC 501 until/incl. RC999

- RC501 until/incl. RC520 Cargolux
- RC521 until/incl. RC540 Nippon Cargo Airlines
- RC541 until/incl. RC550 Guggenheim Aviation Partners (GuAP) / Korean Air Cargo ?
- RC551 until/incl. RC570 Cathay Pacific Cargo
- RC571 until/incl. RC600 Atlas Air
- RC601 until/incl. RC610 Volga-Dnepr Group (AirBridgeCargo)
- RC611 until/incl. RC630 DAE Lsd.Emirates Sky Cargo (NTU)
- RC631 until/incl. RC640 Air China Cargo (NTU)
- RC641 until/incl. RC670 GECAS

The next delivery (November) will be L/N 1469 - JA14KZ - RC524 for NCA. (with non-PIP engines)

The aircraft has already been transferred from the FAA registry (N772BA) to the Japanese registry, see :
http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinqu...NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=772BA

Boeing plans to deliver five 747-8F aircraft in December, That is very ambitious, seen the fact that December consist of only 3 working weeks.
All depends of the timely certifiation by the FAA of the GEnx-2B PIP engine and the airframe/engine combination.

Planned delivery in December :
L/N1482 RC605 ABC
L/N1483 RC561 Cathay
L/N1484 RC562 Cathay
L/N1486 RC563 Cathay
L/N1488 RC549 KAL

That's a misconception. Although the whole company gets the week+ off from Saturday the 21st thru Wednesday the 1st, if there are airplanes on the flight line that need to be delivered there will be flight crew, ground crew and all the support people (contracts, engineering, etc) available to get the job done -- airplanes will be delivered.

I am well aware of the fact that Boeing IS ABLE to deliver airplanes in the holiday period.
But they will only do that if the carefully planned schedule has failed, due unforseen circumstances. (weather, technical issues, certification delays, etc.)
Scheduled deliveries are normally not planned at the holiday period, due increased (labor) costs.

How about NCA original plan to take delivery of 3 freighters in 2013, will JA15KZ not make it before the end of the year?

In the 2012 businessplan NCA stated to take 3 new 747-8F aircraft in fiscal year 2013.
However the NCA 2013 fiscal year started at April 1 2013 and runs until/incl March 31 2014, see page 103 lower side : https://www.nca.aero/e/profile/history/pdf/history_part06.pdf

Too bad not many more carriers have ordered this beautiful flagship. The 747 continues to be my favorite aircraft in the sky, to me when I think aviation the first image I see is a 747 taking off, I'm sure I'm not alone, and while I've never had the opportunity to travel on one, I'm sure the experience must be as amazing as the plane itself! Saw this video by Boeing today, thought it was great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXRLjzUy-ew . I really hope more carriers order the 748i, I refuse to believe that so little of them have been ordered, If i ran an airline I would order the 748i over the 380 any day, not only is it safer in my opinion, but more efficient and an icon and hals a lot more money if operated to the right routes, the upper deck is a 737, how much more room can you need! Hopefully this isn't the end for the queen!

L/N1437- RC573 has been used for some (FAA) testing. Probably the updated FMS software (version 3.0) has been flight tested by Boeing and the results verified by the FAA.
The aircraft has been ferried (with Mark Feurstein as commander) to Boeing Field to free some space at the Everett flight line.

This flight line is almost full with engine-less or PIP engines powered 747-8 aircraft (The last B1 flight was several months --ago !), all awaiting to be delivered after certification of this PIP engine. The next 747-8F (L/N1493) is scheduled to roll out from the assembly line at December 02.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update :

L/N1483, RC561, Cathay #11, B-LJK (powered by PIP engines) is scheduled for a first (B1) flight at Saturday (November 23).

Apparently those engines were destined for LN 1486, meaning LN 1483 has not received the PIP engines.

Thanks, Fully correct, I was looking one line to low.
I always use the tabulation (RCxxx) number as an airframe identifier and then I have to search for the matching line number.

Karel, IIRC L/N1482 (ABC) was the first airframe in 2013 that had it's (PIP) engines installed after an engine-less roll-out from the assembly line.

Wow, just when Boeing finally is clearing out all the 787-8, they start accumulating 747-8. How long will these aircraft sit idle? Are any of the last build 747-400 still sitting waiting first service?

Hardly accumulating 747-8s, just some awaiting engine upgrade clearance of the FAA. Most of the dozen freighters parked will be active in a few weeks from now. There is no problem but NCA not being able to take delivery as quickly as Boeing builds them.

Until a few weeks ago there was the odd single one parked longterm which couldnt be delivered due to bankruptcy of the client. Its now with Cargolux, although apparently only for a temporary lease.

Provisional 747-8 Aircraft Production List (December 01 - 2013)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updates from previous listing (November 01 - 2013) :

- Firing Order sequence : NIL
- Added to Firing order : LN1508-RC068
- Emerged from Final Assembly Line : L/N 1492-RC031, L/N1493-RC641
- First (B1) Flight : L/N1483-RC561, L/N1484-RC562. L/N1486-RC563
- Delivered : L/N 1469-RC524

L/N1483-RC561 delivery has slid into December, due delayed certification of the GEnx-2B67/P1 engine (incl. EEC software to solve the high altitude booster icing issue).

Now Boeing plans to deliver six (6) B747-8F aircraft between 10 December and 19 December.
That will be quite an accomplishment if they do it.

Note: Delivery ( = handover), not a delivery flight.

Four other 747s (L/N1483-RC561, L/N1484-RC562, L/N1485-RC526 and L/N1488-RC549) still on the schedule for delivery by 19 December.

Correction : L/N1479-RC525 is scheduled for delivery by 19 December and NOT L/N1485-RC526 !!

Updated info : Now L/N1486-RC563 re-scheduled for December 23 (last day of work before the holiday shut down)

Boeing just issued this press release:

Boeing Delivers First 747-8 with Performance-Improved Engines

EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) today delivered the first 747-8 with performance-improved GEnx-2B engines as part of the airplane's Performance Improvement Package (PIP.) A Cathay Pacific Airways 747-8 Freighter was the first 747 to deliver with the PIP engines.

The engine is the first of the package's three improvements to enter service. The two other components, Flight Management Computer (FMC) software upgrades and reactivation of the horizontal tank fuel system on the 747-8 Intercontinental, are expected to enter service later this month and in early 2014, respectively.

"This is a significant milestone for the 747 program. These upgrades are part of our commitment to continually improve the 747-8 for our customers," said Eric Lindblad, vice president and general manager of the 747 program.

The PIP engine improves the airplane's efficiency by 1.8 percent. "With this improvement, 747-8 customers will use roughly 30 less semi-sized trucks of fuel per airplane per year," said Bruce Dickinson, 747-8 chief project engineer and vice president.

All three PIP components can be retrofitted on the 747-8. The tail fuel reactivation is applicable only for the 747-8 Intercontinental and the FMC upgrades can also be made to 747-400s.

This is news to me and the carriers using the 744 for some more yaers will be happy about this

Boeing 747-400 operators can upgrade to the NGFMS by sending in their current installed FMS boxes for the card change-out. Some additional wiring will be necessary for Future Air Navigation System (FANS) capability, as well as upgraded displays for operations such as Required Navigation Performance-Authorization Required (RNP AR). Honeywell has developed a new, color liquid crystal display MCDU for Boeing on the 747-8, but that is not required (at the 744) to access the NGFMS.

According Honeywell : “We see a lot of 747-400 operators out there today, especially guys who use the aircraft for cargo and plan to keep it for a number of years. They like the aircraft, but they’re concerned about FANS operation, they’re concerned about RNP-type operations, They want some of the other functionality that’s in NGFMS. A lot of the folks who are planning to keep their aircraft are planning to do this upgrade.”

BA is one of the customers for the upgrade of their 744 fleet : http://www.honeywellnow.com/2013/01/...mize-efficiency-passenger-comfort/

Quoting Hirnie (Reply 124):

This very difficult to rate. It depends on route pattern, payload, ATC etc. But you are able to fly the optimum routes more accurate, predict step climbs more accurate en also more optimum climb profiles may be flown (reducing noise and possible a (small) payload increase at climb limited departures.

Quoting Hirnie (Reply 124):
When will the icing problem on the 748 be solved?

General Electric is predicting a fix around the first month of 2014 for both the GEnx-1B (787) as the -2B (747-8).
The fix will be a software upgrade of the Electronic Engine Control (EEC), opening the ten (10) variable bypass valve doors when sensing an iced booster stage. (a certain combination of EEC sensor inputs can predict this icing condition) .
Centrifugal forces than slide the ice particles via ducts to the fan bypass duct, without damaging the core engine (HPC and further)

So which airline has a yellow/blue rudder?

it's only a blue rudder, the yellow is the protective coating on the vert stab aluminum.

With RC605's delivery today, that makes five 747-8 deliveries in December (RC525, RC561, RC562, RC563, and RC605).

RC549 has an outside chance of being handed over by the end of the year (with the date of the delivery flight TBD).

Boeing will probably take a breather in January. I don't think DLH will take ownership of RC031 (D-ABYL) until February. This will be the first Intercontinental with the horizontal tail fuel tank activated. B-1 flight will happen early in the New Year (touch wood).
