I am flying to Europe in business class in the near future. However, I do not know which airline has a better business class. Business class on a Lufthansa 747-400 or Business class of a United 777? Which is better?

Trust me, you better take United over LH. UAL flight attendants are much more personable and friendlier than Lufthansa's 68 year old stone-faced sky marshalls parading up & down the aisles as "flight attendants." Plus, on UA, you'll more than likely get PTVs as the primary entertainment.
Lufthansa people seem to be downright stern, if not cold. Also, witht he way the loads have been on most U.S. carriers since September 11, you'll probably have less passengers on your United flight. The LH flight will probably be more crowded.

I have not flown LH C class, but just returned on UA (Sept 9th) from a roundtrip IAD-BRU on a 767/300 in C class. I was pretty dissapointed. The seats are rather narrow, the PTV was a nice feature, but the choice was downright lousy. The movies were ok, but the other channels were limited, at best. I hesitantly brought a cd player for the domestic legs, and ended up using it over the ocean, instead of watching the PTV's. And believe me, I am a big PTV fan. Also, on both legs, the food was just ok. Flight attendants were NOT friendly at all. Perhaps the seats are better on a 777. Overall, it was not the worst flight or anything like that, but I certainly thought it would be much better. I was going to write them a letter, but thought it sounded so trivial, compared with everythhing else going on.

in my opinion there is absolutely no question:
Go LUFTHANSA!!!
Lufthansa is not my favorite airline to begin with (if I were flying I would fly British Airways via LHR- you'll get the flat bed) but their service is infinitely better than United's.

I can't speak for United, but Lufthansa does not have a good reputation for its Business Class amongst Star Alliance carriers - it's really quite ordinary, however their First Class is excellent. For example, it has a very simple PTV system - only a few channels of TV, it's not particularaly advanced. Seat pitch is amongst the smallest of any major long haul airline - 47".
You can't compare LH320 Business Class with that of a UA777 or 747 - intra Europe business class is nothing special - in fact it's basically Economy Class with tastier food. Seats are practically the same, with seat pitch virtually identical.
Why not do what Konstantin suggested and fly both?
