Right now on Counterspin on CBC Newsworld, they're having a 50-minute debate about what to do about Air Canada and the Canadian air travel industry.

Panelists include unionist Judy Darcy arguing for a larger bailout, taxpayer advocate Walter Robinson arguing against, and federal NDP transport critic Bev Desjarlais arguing for capacity regulation.

If you don't catch the current broadcast (10 p.m. Central), it is scheduled to be re-aired at 1 a.m. Central (11 p.m. Pacific, 2 a.m. Eastern) just after the national news update.

Thanks....I'll tape it and watch tomorrow.

This has got to be most left-wing news show in Canada...I treat it as comedy.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

It isn't a news show! It's a pulpit for the Lewis family's favourite old-left causes (Naomi Klein included).

At least Sharon Lewis (any relation to usual host Avi Lewis?) isn't as shrill. If Avi himself were there, he'd probably go off in favour of renationalising Air Canada, introducing price controls and other retro '70s policy ideas.

What really struck me as odd was the fellow from the rail transport lobby group (Transport 2000?) who was arguing that the government should invest in rail travel as an alternative to air travel. Passenger rail economics are questionable enough in parts of Europe, with its high population density and close-together cities. How could it ever be economical in Canada, a country so vast and thinly populated that the capital of Newfoundland is closer to the capital of Morocco than it is to the capital of B.C.?

Like I said, these hard left ideological dinosaurs think the answer is to nationalize everything! Makes for good comedy. I live 5 minutes from the CBC studios in Toronto....I should sit in the audience sometime and cause some shit!

I was wondering myself if Sharon Lewis was related to Avi Lewis.....yikes.....poor Avi.....a brain-washed childhood in the house of Stephen Lewis and Michelle Landsberg...what warped nonsense he must have been fed as a youngster.

What's Avi Lewis' education? Didn't he get a pretty formal education?

The drastic turn of events couldn't have come at a worst time for AC.

According to Flight International, passenger numbers increased by 44%! That means a lot of extra capacity, and it seems that there is more than excess capacity.

It is so unfortunate for them. Poor AC  Sad

Avi Lewis went to high school at UCC. How appropriate for a child of hard left socialists.

Must be nice to be able to afford to be a socialist. Like Alexa McDonough.....daughter of a millionaire.
