The design company that put together BA's doomed World Colours fiasco was the same organisation that designed a new livery and corporate style for BCal in the mid 80s, just before BCal went bust and was taken over by the World's Favourite Airline.
It was identical in nature to the World Colours but instead of random and frequently ugly bits of art and craft from around the world (which were usually so obscure as to be impossible to assign to a national or ethnic group, except of course the beloved 'Chinese Take Away' tails), the BCal version was a different TARTAN on each tail. Goddam that would have looked gorgeous at Gatwick. Especially if they'd lived long enough to get the big fleet of MD11s BA cancelled the second they took the reins.
(Personally I loved the idea of the World Colours and most of them were incredibly far out, like something from the 60s. But too often the thing that made them so striking to someone with a taste for far out was that they were ugly, and ugly weirdness was never going to appeal to British executives and American tourists looking for the touch of class and restaint of a nice crest or the nice union flag Nelson flew at Trafalgar.)
