Airbus to choose Toulouse for A3XX site - report
FRANKFURT, Nov 27 (Reuters) - The Airbus consortium will choose the French city of
Toulouse as the site to build its planned superjumbo A3XX airplane, not the German cities
of Hamburg or Rostock, German magazine Spiegel reported on Saturday.
Citing ``German industry sources,'' the magazine said Toulouse will be chosen as the final
assembly site for the airplane at the Airbus consortium supervisory board meeting planned
for December 8.
Hamburg will be used as the site for constructing smaller airplanes and the eastern German site in Rostock has been out of the
running for weeks, Spiegel said in the article due to appear in its next issue.
The French have pushed hard for the the 550-650 seat plane to be built in Toulouse, the headquarters of Airbus Industrie
[ARBU.CN], instead of Hamburg, where port access would facilitate assembly of the massive aircraft.
Airbus has said it hopes to have enough airlines on board to begin taking orders in 2000. This would be consistent with a
delivery date of July, 2005.
The European aircraft consortium is betting the plane will put an end to the monopoly in large airplanes enjoyed by Boeing since
it launched the 747 over a quarter of a century ago.
The Airbus consortium comprises Aerospatiale Matra , DaimlerChrysler Aerospace and Spain's Casa and British Aerospace

Does this mean that they will shift production of the A320 to Hamburg?
I would have loved to see the A3XX be build in Germany, but anyway!
Good luck A3XX!
