One time, i was checking in at SIN on an SQ flight. And while checking in, since I am a premium Star Alliance member, I asked for an upgrade. She replied, "sorry sir, we aren't giving any complimentary upgrades here at checkin, please ask at the gate."
Next thing you know, she hands me my boarding pass, and it is Raffles Class!!!!

It was the first time on a 747 full stop - and great to be a 400 and so new!
The a/c are really clean and impressive - although the entertainment system on the latest a/c isnt the best on offer - they dont have games, only movies.
Also, the seats are all odd colours, some orange, some blue and some red with no apparent co-ordination or reason.
The cockpit door was locked for the entire flight and all flight deck visits are no longer allowed (I asked and they said no!)
Also, we flew over new York on the return flight at night, which was a bit scary.
Overall, VA were the best airline I have experienced, and I now have four of their free goodies bags sat at home!

I flew on G-VTOP (not so grand against the new 744's!) in May but I belive Virgins best ever 744 HAS got to be G-VXLG without doubt. I flew on her from LAX-LHR in May 2001 and to be honest I am not quite sure why I am obsessed with this aircraft- must be the nice reg and the FAB name - Ruby Tuesday.
Virgin are well known for funny reg's or ones that have some kind of meaning. The new 744 reg's dissapointed me, I mean G-VROY what kind of reg is that!! G-VBIG (Very Big) etc etc has class to it.
Come on virgin hope you can please us with A380 reg's!

Something that did alarm me on my flight was that the flight deck door was unlocked the whole journey with people in and out of there all the time, at one point the captain was standing by the open door for several mins chatting to one of the F/A 's who incidentally got the jumpseat for landing - lucky guy!!

And you got the brand new ones for your first flight. Now thats the way to fly. Hope you enjoyed it. Would you be interested in posting a similar version of your trip report in the trip report section of my website, showcasing what you liked about Virgin? http://www.virginatlanticfan.f2s.com
