The title says it all. What routes are flown by A340-200s and which airlines fly these routes? If it helps anyone, Air France(I think), Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, and Sabena fly them. I'm sure some other airlines fly them too. They are used as VIP aircraft a lot, but don't include that.

LH use the 342 on their "not so much frequented routes" like Westafrica, Northeast Africa, the former USSR States and the Gulf Area. But also on their Atlanta and Vancouver flights.

Thanks! Usually Lufthansa uses the A343 on flights to Atlanta I think. The do use the A342 sometimes though. Which USSR countries does Lufthansa use them to?

LH use the 342 on their flights to the following former USSR destinations : Almaty/Kazakhstan, Aschgabad/Turkmenistan, Baku/Azerbaijan, Taschkent/Usbekistan. Also to Teheran/Iran.

Since the new timetable is released they fly to ATL and YVR with the 342, in the past always with 343.

Where else does Lufthansa use them too? What about the other airlines that use them? Thanks for the input so far!

Hey Airplanetire, Cathay Pacific has quit flying the A342 for ages actually, they've only been using ithem for a really short period, and i think they didn't buy them, but leased them and now returned to the leasing company.CX now has A343 only!

Best Regards

Airplanetire,

Air France does not operate the A340-200 anymore. The Air Tahiti Nui aircraft (F-OITN) mentioned by Sabena332 used to be with Air France as F-GLZD before.
The routes served by Air Tahiti Nui are from PPT to AKL, OSA, TYO and LAX.

AF have disposed of all their 340-200's and replaced them with A340-300E's (or A340-313X if you prefer) :

F-GLZD / F-GLZE -> went to AOM
F-GLZF -> went to Air Tahiti Nui, now F-OITN

F-GNIA -> written off after fire during storage at CDG (brand new at the time)
F-GNIB/F-GNIC/F-GNID/F-GNIE/F-GNIF -> went to Sabena.

My last trip with an AF 342 was CDG-SEL with F-GLZE in 1998...long time ago.

UTA_flyinghigh,
as far as I am informed it was msn #31 F-GLZD that went to Air Tahiti Nui as F-OITN and #38 and #43 F-GLZE and F-GLZF that went to AOM. I will look this up tonight and then confirm.

I flew on an A340 LAX-FRA this last winter, and on the way there I was pretty sure it was an A342, though on the way back it was definitely an A343.
Great flight, left LAX at 10:30 pm, got in to FRA the next evening at about 8ish, plane was almost empty, classic A340 easy lift from the lightly powered engines. One of my most comfortable flights ever.

It is not enough to be rude; one must also be incorrect.

Bruce, the LH A340 "Herne" is a A340-313. Its registration is D-AIGL, delivered in 1996.
