I recently posted that Varig would be flying B747s into JFk. As it turns out this was a misunderstading, operations in RIO had sent a telex to Varig at JFK with a typo. They accidently identified the aircraft as a B747 instead of a B767. Instead, Varig will start flying a B747-300 into JFK on selected dates.

Are you kidding? Varig will not resume 747 operations any time soon. Especially to JFK! The 747s are gone and they are gone for good. The airline has lost so much money lately that getting 747s would be suicidal for Varig. However, the airline is getting brand new 777s in a few more days.

Hi.

I don't think that Varig will resume the operations of their 747-300, specially to New York . Varig are well with the MD-11 and soon the newest Boeing 777-200. I think that for now the best option to fly to New York is the Boeing 767-300ER.

As it has been said before, Varig will not resume operation with the 747's. Yeah they will get new 777 in a few days,,,,,, they should place it in the routes to the Pacific.

Latin Plane:

I've seen an report yesterday in "Jornal Nacional", in which they showed that VASP has won a petition against the government in which they would receive
2.8 billion reais, about 1 billion dollars!
I wonder what could happen if they get this money...

Best Regards

Neo

Talks around here are about VASP buying ERJ-145s. If that is true,I think it is an excellent idea,as it would serve VASP's low desnsity to heavy destinations with better pax percentage. Maybe thats what the money is for,as I heard they plan on buying atleast 20 to start with maybe 15 options. And no,VARIG will not bring back the 747. Like latinplane said,it would be disasterous. JFK will be served by the 767 as the MD-11s fly mainly to Europe plus LAX and Tokyo. VARIG has been looking into replacing the MD-11s with A340s lately, which could be a good idea. Lets just wait and see.....
