I've often wondered about the Israeli Flag Carrier El Al.

How is that pronounced?

Is it as in letters "Eee Ell A Ell"

Or is it as a word "elal"?

And what do the letters stand for?

EL AL is roughly translated as "to the skies" in Hebrew, Israel's language.

It is pronounced as follows (two words) "ehl" "al" soft e and soft a and "al" as in the nickname for "albert"

Above and Beyond is translated. The direct translation:

El = To
Al = Above.

The "El" is like in Spanish!
The "Al"... Ahl.
