DILLINGHAM, Alaska (AP) -- A commuter plane with 10 people aboard crashed shortly after takeoff Wednesday, killing nine people and injuring one, state police said.

The plane, operated by PenAir, Alaska's biggest commuter airline, went down in calm, clear weather en route to King Salmon, a community about 75 miles away, Alaska State Troopers spokesman Greg Wilkinson said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The National Transportation Safety Board planned to send investigators.

The injured passenger was hospitalized. Her condition was not immediately released.

Dillingham is on Bristol Bay, 330 miles southwest of Anchorage

Keep in mine that after 9/11 the media is going to tell you about every incident. Were as befor some might be a text at the bottom of your screen. Just a thought.

It seems like the last few years have had more crashes than ever before.

TWA 800
ValuJet 591
Egypt Air 990
Swissair 11? (I forget the last number, sorry.)
the Alaska MD-80 (I forget the flight number again)
The SAS MD-87 crash from Monday
.... and then the AA and UA crashes from 9/11, to name a few.

We are all on end and especially sensitive to airplane crashes.

Obviously not. Sorry to rant,but this is just my airliners.net pet peeve.

Oh well, at least there aren't 4 different threads like there are for the Delta jet that was diverted to Shreveport.
