Do you think that switzerland can afford to have a single airline operating on two hubs, like BSL and ZRH?
Would it be possible to take profit from the brand new hub installations of Basel to keep it THE european regional hub and to transform ZRH into THE intercontinental hub, serving only very important european cities?
And what would happen with Geneva?
I think that the BSL hub will remain, as it works very good especially with the transfer times and infrastructure, and the Zurich population and businessmen will insist to have the more direct connections possible troughout europe and the world. But I fear that Swissair will reconcentrate on a european customer market and less on intercontinental travel transiting only in ZRH!

This is a good question. A Crossair hub in Basel serving European routes matched with an international hub in Zurich? That would be awful.
Let's say a guy in New York wants to go to Zagreb on SR/LX. He would have to fly to Zurich, then take a shuttle run to Basel, and go on to Zagreb. Forget it. Better to go through Frankfurt or Paris.
I think both airlines should consolidate into Zurich. I consider Basel a bit redundant anyway, since Basel is only about 45 minutes away from Zurich by car. There is no need for a major airport in Basel. Zurich has more of a population center and a bigger airport. Basel's airport isn't even in Switzerland, but in France, hardly fitting as a base for Switzerland's new flagship airline!
Geneva is 3 hours away by car from Zurich, and farther than that to the next nearest major airport, so a mini-hub in Geneva would be very useful (but hey, I live there ).

Easy Jet is interested of operating flights from Geneva to Zurich! That would be great!!!
Swissair has a monopoly for domestic traffic in Switzerland but Crossair doesn't have it!
If Easy Jet can offer domestic flights in Switzerland, this would be a really good news for Swiss civil Aviation, in this sad period!

Sure Easyjet is even considering offering very cheap flights from Basel to London, and this willbe verygoodfor usliving near BSL, and if theyfly also ZRH-GVA passengers will take a lot of benefit...prices willfall, frequencies rise, even the train companywill have to make efforts to keep their stakes...
but CRX/SWR will even get more trouble I fear because they 'll lose evenmore money...
What is sure is that BSL IS A swiss airport, installed 1946 in France because of the lack of space in Switzerland, which is only 5 minutes away from the airport! And CRX headquarters and hub is in BSL and with all the investments they put into BSL it IS sure that they will stay there! Transfers in BSL are much easier than in ZRH but I'm sure they'll keep a lot of traffic in Zurich!
