From Jyllands-Posten, major Danish daily:

Linata Airport has repeatedly had problems with aircrafts in darger of collision while maneuvering on runway and taxiways. In June last year there was a serious incident which called for a major investigation. The investigation revealed 45 incidents, says the Internet issue of IL Nuevo.

After the incident last summer the controllers defended themselves telling that tower staffing was too small for the traffic.

Dario Balotta from the controllers' union said that LIN is used as training ground for new controllers for the whole country.

The information, that the ground radar was inoperative, combined with too little staffing, made Osvaldo Gammino react - he represents the LIN airport users: "Until now we believed that the safety level in the airport was fully satisfactory. Now we must have a look at the safety routines again and see what shall be improved", he said.

It wasn't only the ground radar which was inoperative. New information tells that an electronic sound warning system telling controllers where planes passed was also inoperative. Also insufficient signs may have caused the Cessna crew problems finding their right way around in the airport.

The investigation may take a long time. The Italian investigators are short of manpower because they simultaneously also must investigate two helicopter crashes.

That was what I consider the most important news found in the very comprehensive coverage of the LIN tragic found in the Danish papers today. 19 of the casualties were Danish, 16 pax and 3 F/As.

Sadly it often takes a disaster like this to uncover a whole mess of stuff, that shouldn't be.

Rest in peace those that lost their lives.

Now Danish radio news tells that due to safety problems one of the LIN runways has been closed! But no more details.

If I am well informed, then LIN has two more or less parallel runways, one ordinary runway 18L/36R, and then a tiny litttle 2500 ft long stip for small private planes only.

Does anybody know which one has been closed?
