Biman Taking Delivery Of Ex-Egyptair 777

Not identified, but I guess its one of the two 777 stored in 2012 (SZ-GBX or GBY) after the fire of their sistership. Both will be leased for 5 years.

What I am asking is are the 772s fit for service or is BG about to pick up a pair of lemons for a great price?

Both airworthy Egyptair 77E frames are supposed to e going to Biman and allegedly will be sub leased to an EU carrier (TBA) so that they can re-commence services to New York via Birmingham at some point in the summer.

They can't use their own 77W because of their Cat 2 FAA status.

Fair question.

Both probably need some TLC. One has been parked for some time , whilst the other has been used as a pilgrim bus.

Years ago it was reported that the airline wanted to sell the 772s upon delivery of the 77Ws. Seems that didnt work out as planned, one reason surely must surely be the unrest in the country. Not to say anything bad about Egyptair´s maintenance, but I noticed their planes aren´t hot cakes on the secondhand market. I guess the other two (older) 772s wont have much chance to find a buyer that would fly them anywhere else than Marana or Victorville and therefore Egyptair will keep them for secondary roles until they are being scrapped in a few years time.

Biman returned or did not accept other 777s in the past, apparently because the rent was too high. A 13 or 14 year old Egyptian plane must be considerably cheaper than a 10 year old SQ-777. But then I wouldnt put as much trust in such planes also.

Wouldn't be surprised to find them parked within the year after arriving in Dacca in what ever their state.

Biman will loose ever more money when JFK re-commences and at some point the Generals will once again stop the tap.

There only hope was Kevin Steele and he has left the business after contracting TB - Hope he recovers soon.

I just flew into Heathrow yesterday and saw an Egyptair 737. Quite a downgrade from the 747 that they used to have. I guess their tourism industry is really suffering.

He has resigned due to exhaustion, he texted me this morning in reply to my message of concern, and it says, "Illness not too bad, just can't work those 70 to 70 hours a week schedules any more." Not really they have increased frequencies from the once daily to two with either a 333/77W on the mid day flight (Rotates with Paris depending on season) plus a second evening flight - This operates with a mix of 738 and 333 through the week.

In addition Egyptair are also flying 5 weekly to Manchester and a weekly LHR-LXR with a 738.

So overall capacity UK-Egypt has never been higher.

The 772 looks great in Biman colors ... hope we get the second one as planned.

So Biman fleet in the near term looks to be ... 4 77W, 2 77E, 2 310, 2 738 (+2)

I guess the 4 788s on order will replace the mid-size wide-bodies in 3-4 years?

4 77W, 4 788, 4 738 ... that's pretty balanced IMHO. We also need a good CEO!
