Virgin Atlantic A330's

I have a few questions regarding Virgin Atlantic.

1. In regards to their A330's, how do they rotate between LHR & LGW etc? I've noticed on flight radar 24 that they seem to operate from either airport. Do they all have the same configurations that allows them to operate leisure routes as well?

2. Do the A330's also operate from MAN, GLA etc?

3. When is their first 789 due? I believe it's the end of this year, correct? Have any routes been announced yet?

4. Is there a website that list the aircraft that have been painted in the most recent livery? Are there any aircraft that are due to be retired soon so will be unlikely to receive a new fresh coat of paint?

The amazing tale of flight.

A330's have operated from GLA but when switched to LHR these will revert back to 744's originating or ferrying from LGW

1. All A330s are now in the same configuration of J33W48Y185. G-VKSS and G-VSXY were delivered in a W59Y255 configuration (and G-VINE was returned from its lease to air china in the same config) but they were all reconfigured in 2013. They all operate from both LHR and LGW, usually with one or two based at LGW which rotate and position back to LHR every few weeks.

2. MAN/GLA doesn't currently see any A330 flights. They are all B744.

3. The first should be delivered in September, with three due by the end of the year. The First 5 or 6 destinations have been assigned but I'm not sure if they have been made public yet.

4. Not sure about the website but G-VAIR is on its end of lease check in MNL and will shortly ferry back to MAN for repainting. However it was in the latest colours! Nothing else is being repainted at the moment but the remaining B744 and later build A346 will probably start to get painted as the B789 arrive

So long 701, it was nice knowing you.

Twice weekly Glasgow- Orlando also resume in April using a leisure 744

Yes, just as soon as they finish the website rebranding which was begun when Pontius was a cadet. For such a previously marketing and brand savvy operation, they don't seem to care, no aircraft have been repainted since G-VEIL about a year ago. If you're going to rebrand for God's sake see it through, they're like NWA into the bowling shoe or UAL out of battleship grey, no money supporting a relaunched brand identity.

However if anyone was going to force a rebrand through at speed, it's Delta

Flew from EDI to DXB with VS a few weeks ago. The LHR to DXB was an A333 - Beauty Queen no less which was the first delivered and was in two class configuration but is now 3 class.

Fantastic journey, great aircraft and brilliant service. I'd fly VS again anytime. Oh yes and Little Red from EDI was fantastic aswell.

VINE was with Ryan in the US. GEM and LUV were with Air China.

VGAS was painted up in new colours more recently too.

Virgin are running a competition currently in the travel trade to name a Dreamliner.
Name has to fit the current trend of being female, trendy and stands the test of time.

So lets have some fun on here and see what a.netters can come up with !

I meant with NWA coming on board, they got it right at speed once it was driven from the top to do so.

I guess that involved rebranding Northwest to Delta so there was probably a need to remove one brand quickly. In this case it is still Virgin Atlantic just with a revised corporate logo.

I think Virgin Australia was rebranding from Virgin Blue about 3 years ago and they still have aircraft flying around in Pacific Blue and Virgin Blue liveries.

Anstar you must admit the idea of Virgin as a slick marketing savvy operation has suffered with the disconnect. Every company I have ever worked for has had the client facing branding front and centre, well controlled and unitary. To suggest, it doesn't really matter as it's just a font change is to undermine the intention of the sexy ad campaign that was run to be "still red hot". It was meant to be a re-launch. Do it / don't do it, but if you are going to do it, do it properly.

As regards repainting/rebranding, surely they wait until each one is due a repaint? In the VS case, the new paint job would probably not be noticed by the majority of the customers. Its only significantly different to people like us.

@regards Musang, people these days are pretty savvy, it's very easy to spot last years look, it's been noticed by a lot of people, especially customers using the website which has a jumbled mix of new and old. It's a huge no-no in marketing for any brand, a great shame in one that lives on it's brand and differentiation. So many less savvy brands do it better.

Of course it was, thanks for the correction.

As the B789s are delivered more and more of the fleet will be in the new livery. VS are very well aware of where the importance of marketing and branding sits in the business but many of its actual customers will not even spot the difference, particularly given the limited spotting opportunities at many of today's airports. They will look out of the aircraft window and see the same red engines, or maybe notice the metallic finish on the fuselage (I know the new paint is a different shade but most people don't spot it) as they board. They may well see the red and white virgin branded tail. The end result is that 99%, based on what they have seen will not be able to tell you whether they were on a new or old liveried aircraft.

Almost everything else has been updated to the new logo and branding. The stuff the customer actually sees like their boarding pass, airport signage, on board literature and the website is in the updated branding.

Bottom line, of course VS are aware of the importance of consistent branding but it has it's place the order of running a business in a responsible manner. It's clear to anyone that VS has lost money in the last couple of years and a fleet of newly painted aircraft are no good to anyone all parked up in the middle of the desert!!

Now that VS are doing better financially I'm quite sure they have a plan for repainting the remaining aircraft...

So long 701, it was nice knowing you.
