On March 26. Turkmenistan’s national flag carrier, Turkmenistan Airlines, took delivery of the first of two 777-200LRs it had on order.

The delivery coincided with the opening of a new terminal at the Ashgabat International airport.

Congrats to Turkmenistan Airlines on a beautiful aircraft!

Livery is very plain...

Where are they going to fly this aircraft to? I can't imagine that there is THAT much demand between Europe and Turkmenistan let alone Turkmenistan and India.

Is this the one that's pretty much VIP transport for the Presidency?

No, especially as they don't like to give out visas. Maybe they'll start to offer connections between Europe and Asia, Emirates style.

At least the engine is now green compared to the VIP 777 (EZ-A777)

Their Facebook page has an article in Turkmen and translating into Turkish (best I could come up with), they mention KUL with service starting later to YYZ. Previously mentioned was SGN, HAN and YOW (!!!)

No, he has one already, EZ-A777.

As a rule, the US isn't too bothered by tinpot dictators unless they try to obtain nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons, or unless they harbor international terrorists. Don't do any of those things and Uncle Sam will leave you alone, and will be happy to sell you a 777-200LR or three.

I just did some reading on the President of Turkmenistan, while it is a dictatorship, life is certainly a little better than the former president who was very closed-minded.

Beautiful aircraft although the livery is indeed plain.

The livery is indeed a bit plain but I don't mind it at all. The 77L is such a beast with those GE90s that it is hard to make one not look good...

It makes a nice change from the usual ex-Soviet/Russian garish colour schemes.

I don't think we'll know where they plan to fly this aircraft until it shows up at an airport somewhere.

Their website is interesting...

They kind of already do this to an extent. They fly to a few cities in India and have timed their flights to connect with European-bound flights in ASB.

I see they have a few cropdusters in their fleet as well.

Oh, wow... Until recently there wasn't even an actual, functioning web site (I assume this one does function).

Yeah I had the privilege of traveling through there in 2001 when their bizarre former president "Turkmenbashi" was ruling, got to see the big gold statue of him in the center of Ashgabat that rotates to always face the sun.

Back then I got to fly a Tu-154 up north to Dashoguz, which of course had a picture of the president in the front of the cabin.

Their web site is fantastic: they didn't pay for the photo from iStockphoto, so it still has the watermark on it. Classy!

I take that back; the current site doesn't appear to function. I suppose it's just for show.

Actually the timetable function does work but last I checked, that's the schedule that ends today Saturday 29Mar14….

I hope to fly on their 77L in May. We'll see.
