Was It Fan Growl I Heard?

Taking off on a United 747-200 N165UA (former Quantas), I heard what sounded like the engine of a Pontiac Grand Prix. Was that fan growl?

Yeah, that sound was the tips of the fan blades going supersonic.

That phenomena is VERY pronounced on the DC10. Really cool humming sound at takeoff power.
