A bunch of YKA's routes have slashed, including YVR-YXS, YKA-YLW and service to YYC will be reduced to one flight/day as well as daily service to YVR is will also be cut from 6 to 5 flights/day. Central Mountain Air is completly pulling out of the airport but I just read in the paper that AC will introduce F28 service to YKA as planned starting Dec 15th.

Why would Central Mountain Air be pulling out? That is one of their key routes into and out of YKA. Calgary Penticton couldn't have been making too much money, if any so that seems logical.

Ottawa is losing YOW-EWR (will now only be operated by CO) and the so-called new YUL-YOW-YQT-YWG route is only going to operate for 2 weeks.

Also AA Eagle cut YOW-BOS, leaving only AC on that route.

No idea why they're pulling out, the YXS route always seemed at least 75% full but I'm not sure how the YYC load factors fared but Im guessing people preffered the Dash 8 to the B1900. They no longer have any offices at YKA so that probably makes the decision to abandon the city easy.

I'm a little surprised at the YYC-YXS cut. WestJet does the route with a 737 and does just fine, so I find it interesting that AC can't make money with a B1900... mind you, they can't seem to make money with much lately.

In addition to route cuts, I know that a lot of regional airports are also getting cutbacks. Here in Fort McMurray (YMM), we're losing the flight that overnights here. It left YEG at 2110 and got in at 2220, stayed the night at left in the morning at 0620 for a 0730 arrival in YEG. This flight was particularily convenient for those travellers going to Ontario and points beyond. I rode them both just a few weeks ago and liked the connection. I left here at 0620, had a 40 minute stop at YEG and was in YYZ by 1350 local time. Now with the cuts the earliest anyone can get into YYZ same day is 1650. Also, it now means the last AC flight heading north is at 1750... inconvienient for lots of folks.

It's too bad YOW lost another route, although it doesn't really surprise me. EWR isn't a Star Alliance hub, and is farther away from the city than LGA. AC did add an extra daily YOW-LGA flight.

Yeah it's sad, but at least CO still flies YOW-EWR 3x/day, and this should be safe considering that it's a huge CO hub. I hope AC will be back on the route next spring when things will hopefully return to normal.

I know of some people that connect in EWR with AC, onto UA...UA has a considerable amount of flights in EWR, a potential very small mini-hub maybe..

The American Carriers almost seem to be doing better flying into Canadian Airports than Air Canada is... I wonder why?
