Due to the recent events in the US, what does Delta plan on doing with their fleet of 727's? Are they going to speed up the retirement process? If so, does anyone know when this would be? I heard that United's plan on being gone by Novemeber. Is that this year 2001, or 2002? Thanks a lot.

Don't forget all the routes that DL uses the 727s on out west. There are a lot of cities that DL serves from SLC with the 727, Like LAX, SMF, PDX to name a few. They still have a strong fleet out west.

Delta has an early 6:30 (around there) to ATL, then a later one , and then I think there may be another. Do you know that aircraft they use on the early 6:30 flight? All of those flights are on the same 727?

There's one 727 from ATL-BHM-JAN-DFW (as I live in Jackson, I follow the flights here). By mid-November, the three DL flights from JAN-DFW will become CRJ's, and the 727 flight will move out. Too bad, I never got to fly on one.

There are around 70 B727's in the DL fleet. 38 are going to the boneyard. They'll be pickled and if conditions warrent, a few of them will be put back to work.
ROC will continue to see the 727 for the time being. They'll probably swap to the MD-88 or the 737-800, depending on loads in the next few months. Annecdotal research shows that they aren't exactly packing 'em in up in ROC.
The LAX 727 base is gone, so anything in/out of LAX will be on the 757/767 or the 737-300 and 800.
