AXA financial, a large French financier, has owned a large chunk of UAL corporation stock for awhile. AXA finances much of UAL's airbus purchases. It holds significant influence over UAL's Board of Directors.

What's more interesting is that AXA has recently increased its share of CAL stock to 16%...

Putting two and two together... who knows?  Big thumbs up

CO and Boeing have an exclusivity deal that gets CO better prices on Boeing aircraft. CO also has a very well outlined future fleet plan that consists of three Boeing families:

1. 737
2. 757/767
3. 777

The only Airbuses United operates are the A319 and A320. It was a surprising order, because United has always been a large 737 customer. Had the 737NG been offered a few years earlier, UAL would have ordered that.

AXA also controls the UAL Board of Directors through kickbacks (standard corporate stuff) though the limits of its power was shown by the inability to consummate the UAL-US merger.
