Let me first say that I am no longer a Southwest Airlines virgin.

I flew into BWI on Friday for a conference and can't wait to fly it again.

So we landed on runway 33 at 7:40 AM and I noticed this huge white plane on the tarmac. And I am stumped cause I don't know what it was. And I couldn't stick around to look cause we already running late for a conference at Hopkins.

I can only describe it as a huge BAe 146 or a small C-5 Galaxy. It had wings extending from the overhead and I thought I saw two engines from each wing. I had a
T-type stabilizer.

The livery of the horizontal stabilizer was green and blue with white lettering.

Does anyone have the vaguest idea of what I am talking about? I'd appreciate any info you have.

I searched through the files here and this is what it looked like.

I know I was looking east and the sun was just behind it, which would explain why I thought I saw blue/green stripes.

But was this in BWI this past week?

It is either the Antov Design Bureau or Volga Dnepr. Both Russian transport airlines. They are all over the place. It could have easily been at BWI.

It is not an An-124 since that is bigger than a C-5 and also does not have a T-tail. My best guess for ya is an IL-76, it roughly fits the description you are giving...its bigger than a Bae-146, smaller than a C-5, has a high wing with 2 engines per wing, and a T-tail I have seen them at civilian airports in the US before, this is my best guess...

According to that picture it's a Antonov Design Bureau
Antonov An-124-100 Ruslan.

Was that the same exact plane you saw in that pic?

Would this be it - the Il-76? This type is being used for a lot of Afghan aid shipments these days...

Looking at your livery description, could it be an Uzbekistan Airways transport?

Nope, it's not the ii-76. It was the 124 cause when I asked my companion, we wrote down our descriptions and compared later. I was erroneous in my first post in that is was NOT a T- tail.

I visited BWI in early August this year and saw that same type plane as well (the first picture posted). From what I can recall, it was parked in the middle of the taxi ways, away from the terminals.

YES, just the man in need!

That is exactly right and thank you for confirming that for me!

Exactly like you said, it appeared from my view to be away from any terminal, but not exactly any runway either. (kind of like that all white MD-11 that is now there as of Sat. night ,at BWI on the tarmac)

Thank you for clearing that up BH. Too bad the light and my timing couldn't grasp a quick shot.

One question:

The livery of the horizontal stabilizer was green and blue with white lettering

How do you know what colors the horizontal stabilizer was painted???  Big grin

Could it have been a USAF C-17 or C-141?

Your original post said a T-tail and looked like a small C-5. Rules out the 124 on both counts. But, as you posted the proper picture and admit you disn't get a real good look, that is OK. Point is, the 124 is slightly larger than a C5.

Damn, this website is getting worse daily.
