It's wonderful to see the high esteem in which US airlines and airports are held by the readers of Conde-Nast. Hmmm. Druk Air and Kabo Air are inexplicably missing from this ranking system.

Is there a link to the story available? I'd be curious as to how they got/processed their data. Also, what's the point basis, like is it an addition of several factors?

Depressing not one U.S. airport on the best airport list; how did Schiphol not make it up there?

Sorry for not specifying the criteri by which the airports and airlines were rated here it is.

Readers' Travel Awards questionnnaires were inserted in the May 2001 issue of Condé Nast Traveller. We sent the replies to Market Management, an independent market-research company, which analysed the data. The catergories are listed below, with the criteria by which they were judged. Figures are percentages representing overall average levels of satisfaction with the facilities or services.

AIRLINES: Range of Routes, Convenience of Scheduling, Punctuality/efficiency, Pre- and post-flight facilities, Service/staff, Catering, In-flight entertainment, Child-friendliness, Loyalty reward schemes and Value for money.

AIRPORTS: Location/accessibility, Design/layout, Cleanliness, Efficiency of check-in, Efficiency of transfers, Luggage handling, Flight information/clarity of signs, Pre-flight facilities/lounges, Food/restaurants, Shopping/duty-free facilities, Parking facilities/cost.

Where did PIT go? I thought it was rated 3rd in the world and best in the US last year? Things couldn't have changed that much.

Glad to know that Cathay is ranked quite high in long-haul business as well as leisure flights. HKG is among the best as a hub too.

It seems, esp. considering the discrepancy between Business and Leisure that UA gets such high marks mostly for route network, Mileage Plus and other perks for frequent business travellers.

I am not a fan of UA, but it's good that they receive recognition for what I gather is an OVERALL good product.

Does is really deserve that rating, though?

Regards.

Hah, GVA among the big ones in the airport listing, nice to see this "small" airport among the big ones (except for Oslo that is).
I must say the airport is quite good although I think it is strange to see it in the top 10, I'd rather see AMS at that rank.

I'm glad that UA is getting some good press. Their int'l biz class is excellent. It's actually MADE excellent by the friendly and professional folks who staff the cabins.

They are, and will be, my choice to Asia every month.

Good to see Aer Lingus rated 4th for short haul leisure and 7th for short hall business travel. They deserve it.

Did DTW get ranked as the worst airport in the nation again? I know they did a few years ago. Haha. Everyone in the Detroit area makes fun of it, hopefully things will change for the better come Jan.

I recently posted results of ConeNast's 10/01 Business Traveler Survey for TransAtl. and TransPac. service and it looked nothing like these results. CO was #2 or #3 either way with none of the other US carriers anywhere near the top. SIA and Virgin were tops with CO edging out CX on TransPac. Hard to beat a 2X2X2 layout in B-Class on a 777, almost impossible in fact unless you're doing it with a 744.

I forgot to mention that this is the British Edition of October's Conde Nast Traveller. For some reason up here in Vancouver it's the only one I could find (probably because the spelling is the same). I'm sure the American edition has different results as well as surveys.
