What Really Happened To Kai Tak?

I am really in the dark as to what happened to Kai Tak airport, why isn't it there anymore?

Its still there, well most of it. The reason it closed is because its so small and there is no more room to make it any bigger. Not to mention the fact that 747-400's were a few meters from peoples roof tops !!
