You know what guys, this really "cheezes" me.
I was visiting my best friend in St. Catherines this past weekend and we were driving to Niagra to go shopping and the casino (I got a jacket and won at the casino!!) but anyway, on the way we stoped somewhere.
He showed me the locks for the Welland Cannel. There they have a raised platform where you can watch these large ships go down like 75-100 feet. WOW.....what a joke, it is a large boat that moves so slow. At YYZ all we want is a place to watch these awesome aircraft. Plus at the locks they have a gift shop and restaurant. Now mind you it is close to Niagra but has nothing to do with the falls but tour busses drop people off to see these boats. The people at the GTAA have to get their heads screwed on tighter and figure this thing out,

Don't cry about it here on this forum, go out and support the petition:
PEARSON AIRPORT VIEWING AREA PETITION
The collection of names is still going on and the list is growing every week. If you have not already done so, we would urge you to go to our website and follow the easy sign-up form to have your name and comments added to the petition.
With the events of September 11th forever changing the way airlines and airports do business, as well as how security is conducted it is more relevant than ever for the GTAA to plan for, and put into use as soon as possible designated viewing areas around the airport perimeters. It would be far easier to control the "viewers" if they were parked in designated spots, than if left to their own ingenuity as currently is the case. Aircraft photographers, families with kids, and aviation buffs in general are not going to go away! We also urge everyone to start writing and phoning your local Member of Parliament for Ontario and for the Federal government and tell them how disappointed you are that there is no definitive plan to include a public indoor viewing area at "Terminal New" which would be accessible to anyone, not just passengers. Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Montreal's-Dorval have terminal viewing areas, but not at YYZ.
Visit our website at http://www.canairradio.com/petition.asp Follow the easy fill-in format to add your name to the petition list. You are also welcome to add personal comments.
Also, take a look at comments received already at http://www.canairradio.com/comments.html
Also, check out the latest correspondence received at http://www.canairradio.com/update.html
Don't leave it for the next guy to do...he's waiting for you!

The GTAA (YYZ) is a privately owned company, and has absolutely nothing to do taxpayers. The entire renovation and expansion project underway is privately financed. The Airport hasn't been owned by any level of government since around 1995. Get your facts straight.
I agree, when the new terminal opens at YYZ, we will have lost the single greatest place to spot at the Airport, the T1 parking lot. There are no plans to add an observation deck. Hopefully the petitions circulating will help change the plans.

You guys have got to come down Stateside and see the spotting area at KCVG! It's incredible. I hope it is still open to the public in light of recent events.
There's a HUGE parking lot, space probably for 50 cars. Piped in ATC scanner over three loudspeakers. Port-o-potties. Three newspaper vending machines. A full view of Rwy. 9/27. A 2/3 view of Rwy 18L/36R. Raised up above runway level.
Apparently when the winds are really bad the a/c have to use only Rwy 9/27, and then the planes come in RIGHT over you! The VASI is right on the other side of the viewing area fence.
The viewing area is on the other side of Rwy 81L/36R directly opposite the end of Rwy 9.
PS we'd love to have a great viewing area incorporated into the expansion plans and construction here at KCLE. Too bad we've got a crooked mayor who doesn't give a crap about anything but giving contracts to his buddies.
