I haven't been out spotting in a while - haven't really been in the mood but I was debating going to BUR Sat or Sun to say goodbye the UA 722s.

Normally I'd go to the top story of the parking lot and take pictures as the plane lands heading east. However do to increased security is this still viable? Are these spots still there? Will I get hasseled? I just want to say goodbye to and old friend. I remember flying UA 722s from LAX to SEA and probably PDX too back in the day.

Thanks so much,

I'd imagine LAX would be pretty strict now.

Bump!!

I hope someone will answer your question.

My own opinion is that you won't even get near the parking garage, without having your car searched, and being interrogated as to why you are at the airport, if you intened to fly, why would you want to be takign pictures of airlplanes, etc. Eventually, you will be asked to leave, escorted off airport grounds, or detained for further questioning.

They're not taking any chances, and even an innocent person wanting to take a picture of an airplane would look suspicious, after all, you will be pointing something in the direction of the airplane.  Big grin

Silly I know, wait five years to a decade and it will all be back to normal. (yep it'll take that long, if not longer.)

I was just at LAX this weekend and it wasn't as bad as I expected. We were only ran off at one place, the DHL parking lot right next to the fence. We first asked these LAPD motorcycle cops who were parked in the lot if they had a problem with us being there and taking photos. They didn't have a problem with that at all. They left after about an hour and we were ran off from an Airport Police Officer who was driving on the inside of the fence. Asked us if we worked for DHL and if so, where was our parking permit......we had to leave.........we did stay on the bridge that goes over Sepulveda Blvd. on Sunday and numerous Airport Police drove by and did not say one word to us. There may be safety in numbers?

What I don't understand is this though.
"Do I look like a terrorist" ????
A terrorist tries to blend in to the scenery and does not want to draw attention to themselves.........I've got a big camera with a long lense wrapped around my neck, I have a radio scanner, a pair of binoculars and a fanny pack full of film just waiting to be exposed...........so do I really look like I'm trying to "blend in" to the scenery? Hell no, I stick out like a sore thumb, I'm an Airliner Photographer silly Policeman !!

Jay - Did you happen to try out the parking lot by the Imperial terminal? That has always been my favorite place to watch and photograph. I always stood ontop of my truck of shoot over the fence.

It is funny to see that they are now actually enforcing permits in the DHL lot, they have never done that in the past.

We normally do the lot at Imperial Terminal, but not this time. We only had a Ford Ranger pick-up truck (rented) and that fence is just too high at Imperial Terminal. Sure wish they'd just cut some holes in the fence, that will never happen, especially since Sept. 11th !!
