I have heard that Emirates are getting A340-500's once,and then this thing has disappeard and every body started talking about the EK 380 .

Is Emirates going to get the A340-500 for the direct american routes flights? and Can the 777-200ER fly from Dubai non stop to IAD or JFK which is approximately 7000 miles??

any one here?

According to Boeing, the 777-200ER has a maximum range of 7.700nm so it should be able to fly between these city pairs. I don't know about the load capacity when it flies such a long route.

I don't think the B777-200ER can fly DXB-NYC without restrictions. As usual the facts provided by Boeing (or Airbus) have to be taken carefully. The route might seem possible on the paper, but not in reality with turbulences, head winds and so on.
There must be a good reason for EK not to use the B772ER on the route but the A345.

I have posted detailed answers on these topics in the past. I suggest you do a search under "Emirates777" in the author's field and you'll get some messages i posted around 6 months ago. In a nutshell yes Emirates are getting A340-500s at the end of 2002 and due to commence nonstop flights DXB-NYC in January 2003. The B777-200ER cannot make it nonstop from DXB-NYC with a full pax and cargo payload especially with peak temperature take-off times.

I do not kno if there were payload restrictions or not, but before 9/11 Malaysia Airlines flies KUL-DXB-EWR.

Their B777-2H6/ER (IGW), named the Super Ranger, flies that route. During delivery flights of the B777 to MH, they fly from Boeing Everett or Renton? non-stop transpole to KUL.

I dont think that the 777 will make it to that route either

but yeah, i heard that Emirates is going to have A345 as "Emirates777" mentioned
