Man Takes Gun on Plane

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

EW ORLEANS, Oct. 24 — A man carried a loaded handgun through security checkpoints at the New Orleans airport today and boarded a Southwest Airlines flight before turning the weapon over to a flight attendant.

An F.B.I. spokesman, Ed Hall, said the man did not realize he had the gun in his briefcase until the flight had left for Phoenix. The man, who was not identified, was not charged.

A security employee was suspended, and the authorities were reviewing why agents did not spot the gun when it went through an X-ray machine.

Yeah... its pretty sad they haven't done a thing at MSY to improve security if they can let something like this slip by...

I suppose it will be good to make all security workers federal employees and to train them in the first place  Wink/being sarcastic

Why should New Orleans (MSY) be any different from other US domestic airports?

Security is a good show now, politically correct with the armed National Guard and all. When are we going to have true security at our airports?

A solution is needed, and it must be applied universally.

The US Federal Gov't should take over the security check points, and add a tax to each passenger ticket in order to cover the cost. An extra $5.00/ per ticket would do alot.

I'd gladly pay an extra 5 bucks a flight to make sure this doesnt happen and it turns out not to be a mistake.
