What Aircraft Do Airtours Use Man > Sanford?

Does anyone know what aircraft Airtours use from Manchester to Sanford? Just booked to fly in January and the travel agent doesn't know. I was just hoping its the A330 with the PTV's !!

Probably the A330, its a high density long haul route. I flew Airtours MAN-SFB in February 1997 on one of their 767's (didn't have A330's in their fleet then i think). If you get the 767, your in for a long flight, no PTV's and I found it extremely crampped for the 9hrs! Service wasn't that good either and add to that the delays I had I have been put off choosing Airtours again. Hopefully they have got their act together a bit now and if you get the A330 you should have a good flight!

Thanks Dem - I have to agree about the service already - we have been asked to pay an additional £30 so that my wife and I can have a meal on the flight (£7.50 each, each way !!).

Is this normal?

I guess I fly on BA to often !!!

If u fly on a Friday on an A330, theres a good chance that the flight will operate via Newcastle.
AIH mainly use A330s/B767s and the occasional DC10 between MAN and SFB.

You were asked to pay £7.50 each for a choice of meal.If you dont want to pay then you just get the standard meal.As for a/c type it will either be a A330-200,A330-300 or B767-300.All these types will be operating the sfb route during the winter.

Lyndon, what is the cabin layout of the Airtours A330? 3-3-3 or 2-4-2? I guess the same question should apply for the 767 although I am hoping that the Saturday flight we are booked on will be the A330 !!

In the Premier Gold cabin its 2-3-2 and in the standard cabin its 3-3-3 however this does vary in places due to bulkheads and thr lower deck toilets.If you want extra leg room ask for 8DEF,9ABC GHJ,32ABC DF GHJ.

The Saturday flight is direct, we originally wanted to go on the Friday, but the flight was two hours earlier (around 7.30am) and stopped at Newcastle for 45 minutes. The Saturday flight departs around 9.25am and direct MAN - SFB, arriving around 3.25pm local time give or take a couple of minutes.

I phoned them up to ask about upgrading to Premiair class and they have now come back to us and told us that the aircraft has a refueling stop in Bangor so I guess that rules out the A330 and probably the DC10 and 767 too. Damn - the whole point of booking the Saturday flight was it was recommended as most likely to have the A330 - we avoided the Friday flight because of the stopover in Newcastle !!

I take it that means we are onboard one of their 757's then?

Airtours only have 1 DC-10-30 which can fly MAN-SFB nonstop, the other DC-10s are series 10 aircraft, which would have to stop in Bangor, but it definately won't be an A330 or B767.

So you might be flying another carrier, by the sounds of it you might even end up on a Monarch A300!

No UK airlines regularly schedule 757s over the pond anymore.

This is used by several charter operators when capacity/technical failures require an additional aircraft.

Whatever aircraft we are on we have now been told that there is no 'Premiair' section onboard. Anyone got a crowbar to get me in and out of the seat (I feel a 28" seat pitch coming on).

I doubt we will be using a hot spare aircraft though, we have been told that Airtours have canned all of their midweek MAN - SFD flights over the winter with flights only on Friday and Saturday and that none of these flights are direct although Friday's stops in Newcastle and Saturday's stops in Bangor (great my wife just watched Stephen Kings 'Langoliers' so she will never sleep on the plane!!). The Saturday return flight is direct though !!

Anyone know of any decent seats to request on Airtours old DC10's?

Good news (sort of!)

I've just checked your flight details against Airtours' winter schedule. Your flight will be operated by a wet-leased SkyService A330-300, C-FBUS.

MAN-SFB is beyond the range of an A330-300 with a full load against a headwind outbound, so that's why you're only stopping at Bangor in on the way to Florida.

Listed schedule as follows;
MAN-SFB AIH061 0930/1620 333
SFB-MAN AIH062 2225/0700 333

I have checked on Skyservice's website and it looks like they have a 2-4-2 layout on their A330 in which case its a result !!!

Dan, For the dates you've given...

MAN-YYC AIH035 1130/2030 763/D1C
YYC-MAN AIH070 2220/0625 763/D1C

The above timings are GMT, I think Calgary is 6 hours behind us? Anyway, very slight changes in timings, but your tickets will give you final confirmation.

Anyway, the flight will be operated by a B767 except during the Hajj when it will be by DC-10-30. For the dates you've given, I think you can expect B767, although either type could appear for operational reasons. Sorry it's not the A330!

I think EGGD is slightly more accurate.

As I said in my post above, those times are GMT, which is what airlines use in internal shcedules ad they give a true picture on stage lengths without having to account for time zones.

MAN 1130 GMT
YYC 2030 GMT
Block Time 9h00

YYC 2220 GMT
MAN 0625 GMT

That flight is shown as being operated by the A330-300 for the full season, 3rd November - 27th April.

Again, the DC-10 fleet provides backup cover, so if Mr Airbus chucks a mental on the morning of your flight, you'll be crossing the Atlantic in a -10.

If you're curious, I've done MAN-BGR-MCO once before, on an Air 2000 757.

MAN-BGR flying time was 6h20
BGR-MCO flying time was 3h00

Bangor is a fairly small airport, and also a NATO airbase. I was there in the winter too, and we landed during a blizzard, it was quite spectacular. If you park up at an airbridge you are able to get off the aircraft and stretch your legs, which is nice on such a long flight. If it's busy and no airbridges are available, they don't bother disembarking you down the steps in a snowstorm and you have to stay on the aircraft! We also had a crewchange in Bangor, not every airline does.

Return flight was nonstop, my longest 757 flight.
MCO-MAN flying time was 7h40

Enjoy your trip, the SkyService A330 does appear to have a slightly more comfortable layout than Airtours' own A330s, but no downstairs toilets and outside cameras!

In the schedule, no MAN-SFB flights this winter are by A330-200, so whatever happened you wouldn't have been on one.
