727-100 In Service?

Can anyone take a rough guess about how many airlines still have 727-100s and about how many 727-100s are still flying?

288 727-100 still in service in various countries & freight express companies. This is a pretty good count considering only 572 were built. The 727s were built to last. Wink/being sarcastic

Here in Mexico still flying only four AFAIK.

The XA-SKC for Aerolineas Internacionales.

And 2 months ago they were was flying the XA-SNW. But too bad no longer anymore.

And the other 3 are from the Mexico Government.

UPS has 727-100 aircraft. They are used for cargo and charter flights.

Here in ROC Fed Ex occasionally uses them along with DHL.

United_Fan I don't think DHL, nor FedEX have any -100s. Here in Canada First Air still has 2 or 3 of them in a passenger/cargo combi configuration

Aerocontinente in Peru might also have 727-100s still carrying pax. Iran Air also run some 727-100s in pax config.

LAB and Iran Air were original customers for the 727-100, so some of these jets have served their whole life with one airline.

It’s interesting that just four airlines own over 50% of 727-100s and the bulk of those are right under my nose. At least I assume that most FedEx and UPS birds would be in the US… true, false?

These types don't say "727-123" or refer to the -100 at all. Why was this numbering done this way by Boeing Company? Anybody know?

No other Boeing type 100 has this 2-digit numbering sysytem....

Here is just a sample of SOME of the US registered 727-100s

FedEx has 51 operating 727-0xxFs (various 020s and 100s)
DHL: 10
Emery: 22
Northern Air Cargo: 3
Ryan International: 5
UPS: 51 strong fleet of re-engined 727-0xx/100s with Rolls Royce Tays.

So, there are lots of -100s still out there, your best bet is to see them hauling cargo. I see them every time I go anywhere, you cant miss the DHL, FedEx and UPS haulers as well as the USPS planes which mostly belong to Emery I believe.
