the only difference is the number of seat.....

74B has 322 Y class seats
74J has 239 Y class seats

the reason for this is because of the extra Business Class seats in the main deck, 74B has 25 and 74J has 62

74J is what CX refer as Premium...they have 62 J class seats in the main deck.....whereas, 74B is what they called Standard, with 25 J class seats....

i guess they use the premium 744 for routes that have more biz travellers.......

anyway. maybe someone can explain this more

No respective networks.Served Sydney 4 times from August to October, once A330 and 3 B744, B & Js served the route.

However, i know that N.A routes operates the Js, with Europe also.Routes to Africa, Australia and Asia operates the Bs.That's all i can say.

Cheers,
Edwards

The difference is the ratio of business class seats to economy seats - where CX can sell more business class seats, they use the aircraft configured with the extra business class cabin - primarily long haul routes where there are many pax willing to spend the extra money for comfort. All of the aircraft are the same from a technical point of view.

While the "standard" configuration aircraft normally do not do Australia and Regional routes, its not a perfect world and sometimes the wrong aircraft will fly the wrong route.

Coach comfort is the same in both configurations, except that with less coach seats on the 74J, the main cabin is likely to fill up more quicky and you are less likely to have an empty seat next to you to spread out.

In less than 2 weeks I will be on my way from London to Hong Kong on my first CX flight ever ( in a 74B). Hope that CX will match other Asian airlines I have tried (Thai and SQ).

......and by the way....which is the best beer in Hong Kong?

The aircraft with larger J class cabins are also called "Super J" by CX staff... They are used on the JFK 888/889 flights. While the discomfort might be the same in the economy cabin, the difference is in the possibilty of an upgrade from Y to J. When Y class gets booked from JFK, pax have to be upgraded...it is well known to CX staff and frequent CX JFK travellers that upgrades are easier on 888/889.
