Wow...Bigger WOW for the fact that you were able to be in the jumpseat for 3 hrs !!!

Dont know when i will get my chance...good news in the sense that you were able to get to the jumpseat after Sep11th events. (you a relative of the pilots/FAs or something?)

By the way landings only from this end eh? If it is from the other end it would give us a Kai Tek kind of approach right.  Big grin

Cheers
Thomas.

Salim, which airline did you fly? Are you in any way related to a pilot or FA? How was it possible to get into the cockpit after the Sept. 11th?

Udo

The runway can't be THAT new judging by all the tire marks around the touchdown markers...

Hy Salim fine!!!

What is the magnetic heading of this RWY?
What approach was it? ILS,VOR DME or Visual?

I don't know why all the friends above seem amazed
by the fact that you were authorized to jumpseat.
I think pilots are pleased by the visit of a passenger
unless he's not armed!!!
I'm against the idea of reinforcing cockpit doors.

I think the runway heading is 16. I flew out on Sept 10th and the runway was yet to open. The other two runways are 18 and 21. Amazing new terminal, it's huge and very impressive. Nice work Mr Hariri.

Hi everybody,
there is some reason that allowed me to do that
1 it ' s an arab airline, MEA
2 I'm only 15
when i went in they cheked my pokets.
My two grand fathers are well known in lEbanon, so it'ss help a bit. But it's possible without it since they didn't knew that when i asked, but after a while
if you want i posted a trip report on the forum
i dont think it's possible to land in the other sens
And the runway is that new, the first landing was two week ago
these are other pictures:

So who did you ask to get the jumpseat?
The new runway is 17/35.

Great, now get rid of Nasrallah's thugs down south, return the Israelis, boot the Syrians, coexist with the christians, and control Hariri's power and you might be getting somewhere!

Hey Salim, answer not compulsory but when you say your relatives are quite well known in Lebanon, is that cos you're related to CHARLES Helou ex PM?

PS I love the idea of buttering up the flight attendants before asking for a cockpit visit by saying how great the service is. I might open the conversation next time I'm trying to get up front by telling them how young they look. Nice work sir.

Love Lebanon, love what they've done to Beirut. Cheers!

Hi,
for the e-mail of the captain, i sopke to him of airliners andd of the Ceaderjet pages (http://www.geocities.com/wassch71/cedraile.html). He didn't knew them so he and the f/o gave me their e mail.
And for ceaderjet, yes i am realted to Charles Helou (ex president). But i was speaking of Michel Edde and Pierre Helou, my two grand fathers.
I agree what you said on Beirut. Im' in Lebanon this week for holidays and in a few minutes im going to the Centre Ville at the Virgin Megastore.
regards
Salim

Salim, I'm pleased that I share a forum with someone of such impressive ancestry. I had many pleasant afternoons this summer on the roof of the Virgin Megastore. I stayed in Shemlan in the Chouf (near Aley), hoped to bump into Mr Jumblatt but alas he was nowhere to be seen. Went into town loads, also visited those caves which was one of the most impressive natural things I've ever seen. Also did Sidon, Byblos, and went to Damascus for two days. Best thing about Chemlan is the astonishing view of the airport laid out beneath. Had some really good binoculars but there was very little action. Always nice to see those TMA 707s lined up (on the mountain side of the airport).

Had dinner at an outdoor Italian place in Centre Ville next to the excavated Roman ruins, it was so sophisticated, wow. Groovy baby!

Cool photos Salim! My best friend at my new school is from Lebanon, so I'm learning more and more about the culture and country.
From what it looks like on those photos, the runway layout is wierd, and the hills dirrectly behind must reduce capacity...

Thank you, Salim, for posting photos of Beirut airport's new runway and terminal! There are very few photos from Beirut airport on the site, and none with good views of the runway or new terminal. I for one love to see what airports from other parts of the world look like.

In the 1980's, when I was in high school, Beirut airport was in the news for terrorism (TWA 727 that had been hijacked out of ATH, etc.). Now things have settled down, the airport has a new runway and a beautiful new terminal. Beirut should be proud of its improved airport.

Keep up the good work, if you get any more pictures please post them.

Jim

Thanks. But dor left seat, this runway is only for landing, there is an other runawy at the other side of the termeinal. the end of this runway is juste before the water so the plane never fly over the city.
By the way, th Tma isn't in a good situation. They have no new plane and by 2002, they will not have the autorisation to operate them in europe.
I ve heard they odered a dc10 30f, not sure about it.

I think Hariri own the Tma
And there is no 4 runways at Bey. There was tw0 runways, one for landing one for takeoff, and when they will close the old landing runawy there will be two runways because the old take off runway is closed and used as taxiway.
