This has been taken from Ritzau:
Italian reports states that the tower controllers might have been the cause of the tragic accident at Linate, which killed 118 people.

Apparently, the pilots in the private owned Cessna repeatedly told the tower that something wasn't right, but these calls were disregarded.

An animation of the accident, provided by Italian television.

Did Linate have ground radar? Anyway, why is that animation innacurate?

The a/c was rotating at impact and continued the direction of the runway 1500 metres before hitting the building.

Linate did have ground radar but for some reason not in use! The animation shows the departing MD87 to veer off to the left but that's not what happened,it crashed almost straight ahead in the departing direction.
The Cessna did come from a taxiway onto the runway.

Was it RWY18 or 36 in use for departure?
From which taxiway did the Cessna come?

Ooops, sorry about the animation, but it seems popular with the various online newspapers (Hmm.. Shouldn't that have been warning sign #1?).

Anyway, yes, Linate DO have a ground radar, but due to maintenance, it had been switched off all weekend. Now, for some reason, it had been switched off all weekend, and not just during the night hours (a spokesman from CPH explained that when maintenace is being done on radars, it's being done during the night, where there are as few planes as possbile), which will probably mean that some new standars have to be set.

Also, why isn't airports equipped with back-up radars? I mean, that would only make common sense.

CPH-R, why is it inaccurate?

Well, just look at this link, and the images at the bottom to see why:
