Linate did have ground radar but for some reason not in use! The animation shows the departing MD87 to veer off to the left but that's not what happened,it crashed almost straight ahead in the departing direction.
The Cessna did come from a taxiway onto the runway.

Anyway, yes, Linate DO have a ground radar, but due to maintenance, it had been switched off all weekend. Now, for some reason, it had been switched off all weekend, and not just during the night hours (a spokesman from CPH explained that when maintenace is being done on radars, it's being done during the night, where there are as few planes as possbile), which will probably mean that some new standars have to be set.
Also, why isn't airports equipped with back-up radars? I mean, that would only make common sense.
