"Because of our strong operational recovery and ability
to provide full, efficient services since the Sept. 11 attacks, America West will resume food service on some of our long-haul flights Nov. 1. AWA will initially offer meals on flights between Phoenix and the East Coast cities of Boston, Baltimore, New York-JFK, Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., and Washington National (when flight service resumes Nov. 14). As our recovery continues, America West will consider reinstating food service on other routes. Our onboard meal service has been modified a little to keep costs low and to facilitate logistics associated with readying a plane for departure under heightened security measures. America West temporarily postponed food service on Sept. 17"

I found this on AWA's employee web site.
