Now that those prized rides in the jumpseat will now become history,. I think that we should thank those pilots whom opened up their cockpit door to those of us who are pilots and enthusiasts. They are now a thing of the past. I was wondering if anyone could share about any jumpseat experience that they may have had. Airline, Aircraft and route

A special thanks to Air Canada's crews for making my first and unfortunately, (most likely) last jumpseat experiences.

As a former Flight Attendant who flew for 5 years
(with tarnished wings, I am proud to add!) I have to admit I never got tired of the thrill of Jumpseat take-offs. They were the ultimate. LOL....I loved sitting in the jumpseat, facing the passengers, and as we took off and climbed, I literally looked DOWN on them! It was cool. aaaah, memories.

I remember on my YYZ-YEG flight with Air Canada I sat up front for the entire flight from boarding till deplaning. and when the captain had three pax visiting the cockpit they told the visiters to address all their questions to me because I had pretty much everything figured out.

My jumpseat rides are as follows, not a long list but they provided good memories for me, all of them are special in a different way.
May 18, 2000
Royal Airlines 740
Airbus A310-300 C-GRYD
YYZ-LGW
Captain Boris Stec
takeoff and landing
We got struck by lightning on approach to LGW, right on the nose, so no pax knew but I was lucky enough to have a great captain who let me videotape the ride and I got the lightning strike on video.
May 21, 2001
Air Canada 137
Airbus A330-300 C-GFAJ
YUL-YYZ
Captain George Bobro
whole flight
Was a cool experience to sit in the flightdeck for a whole flight, this was the only ride that wasn't arranged for me by someone else, I simply asked the captain if I could. There is a trip report about it in that section of the forums.

Virgin 48
Boeing 747-200 G-VSSS
YYZ-LGW
Captain Stevens
takeoff and landing
BIG thanks to my buddy Marc for this one, I was found by a flight attendant and taken up to the flightdeck for takeoff. I wasn't sure at all that I was going to get this ride but right before the push, they brought me up. Got great glimpses of the evening sunset over southern Ontario. The landing was unspectacular but for the fact that I was riding my favourite airline, this ride would be my favourite. On the return I couldn't get it but the lead f/a came up to me, said sorry that I couldn't get it and gave me free champagne!! Thanks a lot Marc!!
