I dont know who told you that the A340-500 is going to be shelved...but none the less to answer your question Emirates has ordered the A340-600. This happened just days ago at the Dubai air show. They also have the A345 on firm order. SR had ordered the A346 but i guess we wont be seeing them in their livery sadly.
Hope that helps

Orders for the A340-600 have been taken by:
and finally by Flightlease, a daughter company of the SAir Group which ordered the planes for Swissair. As it now turns out that Swissair will never take up these ordered aircraft, Airbus plans to talk to new swiss state carrier Crossair intending to convince them to take up the A340-600.
Beside the Emirates order other orders for the A340-500 have been taken by:
Singapore Airlines and Air Canada!

I know Air Canada has ordered 5 A340,s.....2 of the ultra long range version, and 3 of the high capacity version. But I'm not sure which is which (-500 vs -600 series). Could someone please help me out on this? Thanks.
