What with Air 2000 closing the base, BA stopping services to Oslo, Braathens stopping their service to Stavanger at the end of the year. It seems as if NCL has been hit badly by the recent downturn in aviation. With the future of Sabena appearing extremly bleak as well, it looks like things will keep on getting worse. BA decreasing frequency to Cork.
However, it looks likely JMC will keep their base open, with Bristol, Cardiff and Luton to be closed however, Go's new flight to STN appears to be doing very well, BA increaing frequency to 7 daily on the LHR route, all jets to LGW (1 737, 4 RJ100s), BE upping frequency to BHD to 5 daily. Hopefully more good news will come to NCL in the next few weeks/months!
Whats the situation like at other UK regional airports???

Ive got a feeling BE might take over the NCL-BRU route! I think BE will make NCL a hub for them, maybe adding an ABZ route also. I hope Go start a few new routes such as BCN,AGP,ALC,PMI,SVG, OSL or Bergen.

Whats it like at airports such as East Midlands,Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stansted??? I know JMC are closing their bases at BRS,CWL and LTN.
Also how are other smaller, European airports doing??

Eurohub business at BHX has been hit the worst, what with AA to ORD pulling out for the winter; also a few less frequencies on BA routes such as AMS and BFS.
Lufthansa 737 to FRA downgraded to a 146....we even lost our little Exeter flight with BEA. Most other flights are holding their own with Continental to EWR reportedly doing quite well i believe and EK to DXB (but you hear such conflicting information on this subject, so anything goes).
On the whole BHX is down like most others, but i hold faith for a brighter future for all of us wherever we are. Good luck NCL with your new services!

I think the withdrawl of the Exeter flights to BHX was most unfortunate but I can see some sense in it seeing that BEA had only 1 Sh360 in their fleet and so help to reduce maintenance costs, they decide to sell it.
Completly forgot about the MAN-ZRH run by pseudo-BA....I'm so used to seeing them withdraw services, the time that they do something positive, my brain ceases to function
Pseudo-BA have been using 146s on some of the AMS runs instead of the ERJ145s which had been promised...probably just as well as there would have been a shortfall of capacity on this route!
The bmi ORD route has been retimed to land more in tune with the bmi regional routes in the peak periods which should make the service a little bit more appealing for Scottish flyers. In fact, I've just counted the Scottish frequencies - we've got 9 flights a day to ABZ, 10 to GLA and 12 to EDI from Mon-Fri
Luxair have introduced a Saturday service (they've had a very noticeable increase in passenger numbers since putting ERJ145s on the route - shades of Crossair's route to Basel!).
Portugalia have retimed their Mon-Fri services to midday and are operating ERJ145s.
Wonder if we'll end up with some Virgin Express flights to BRU at long last: I'm sure they applied for slots in the late 1990s but couldn't get any.

The biggest sporting festival in Britain has staged since the World Cup - the Commonwealth Games (and yes, I do know that Edinburgh staged them in 1986 but that wasn't really a great success).
It's going to be first chance for the global audience to realise that it's not necessary to hold all major sporting events in London - hopefully if and when Birmingham gets the National Stadium, then there will be ample opportunity for Birmingham to promote itself on the global stage as well!

"I can confirm as of 7 November 2001 British European will operate Birmingham - Brussels, Edinburgh - Brussels, Newcastle - Brussels. Further routes are being considered but no decision has been made. Initially two rotations will be flown increasing to three as of 8 November 2001.

Well, looks like the future of JMC at Newcastle is not too bright. On the plus side, looks like AIH will base 2 A320s and Air Scandic will again use NCL as its second base after MAN, possibly year round from next summer.

Belfast Intl has suffered alot recently too with the pullout of EI, BA on the LHR route and SN. BD has also cut back on the LHR route. On the plus side there has been expansion in recent times from EZY and GO. Looks like BFS is going to be like LTN or LPL in being a low cost hub.

Elaborating on the MAN-BRU service, it's now bmi 3 daily, BA (in various guises) 5 daily, DAT are down for 4 daily and I believe Virgin Express have put in slot requests for a 3 daily service!

Brit.European took over straight away after Gill on BHD and CDG routes, Go took over STN and ABZ and DUB were already being served by BA so...
And BE are expandin at NCL with the opening of a crew base so ex-Gill employees are in with a shout of getting a job fairly quickly again

According to their website, DAT will operate 3xdaily returns form BRU to EDI but not to GLA who have apparently lost their BRU link.
BE have also opened EDI-BRU to add to the daily bmi.
At GLA, things dont look too good with Canada 3000 disappearing, Air Canada closing down for the winter (usually keep GLA-YYZ going as a split load with MAN) and AA doing likewise. Both due to return in April 2002. However, CO's daily EWR will continue as does the Iceair daily to KEF with onward connections.
RYR and easyJet seem to be doing all right thank you very much.

I heard Icelandair were going to 5 x weekly to GLA. The AA service to ORD always disappears during the winter.
Shame DAT aint doing GLA-BRU though
NCL has BE 3 Daily and DAT 3 Daily to BRU, using Bae146/RJ100 equipment.
