VLM announced that they will start flights between Brussels and London-City as from 08/11/2001 ( 3 X daily )

Will, besides Virgin Express , VLM be able to take over more old Sabena routes. Do they have the financial means to expand and start several flights from Brussels ?

An other source tells us that F. Van Gaever ( also founder of VLM ) wants to start some inter-continental destinations from Brussels ( new company ) he will try to get hold of the license of Sabena to do so. Not a lot of info besides that it will be a small company serving 2 or 3 destinations .

I hear from sources in Brussels that VLM has been approached to take over DAT now that VEX have said "no way, Jose!" Can anyone confirm this? I think it will be an excellent match, but would be likely to have a political backlash from the Walloons...  Insane  Insane  Insane

Regards from the proud creator of the 1999 VLM Airlines logo and livery!

P.s. It is not "VLM" anymore but "VLM Airlines"

OK VLM Airlines then, but do you think they are able to start up more destinations from Brussels ?
Maybe with the coöperation of EuroWings ( is one of the bigger 'regional' carriers in Europe no ? )
Did you get already some 'inside' info or rumours that they have that kind of ambition or is this just a chance they couldn't let pass by ( since they operate already several destinations from London City )
Any info about where they get the capacity from ?

VLM Airlines is doing quite well. If they are going to play a bigger role in Belgium their name should be BLM (Belgische Luchtvaarmaatschappij (Belgian Airlines)) to satisfy the Walloons.

Originally VLM stood for Vlaamsche Luchttransport Maatschappij (Flemish Air Transport Company). The owner of VLM Airlines is the Dutch tycoon Jaap Roosen Jacobson. Former managing director Christian Heinzmann left VLM Airlines to become CEO of Luxair. Former technical director Piet Wauters is now managing director at VLM Airlines.

VLM Airlines. It's all about time.

VLM Airlines' director Piet Wauters comes originally from DAT or Sobelair so he has good connections with the Sabena group. I cannot imagine that VLM Airlines will not profit of the existing gap in the market as VLM Airlines is perhaps one of the few airlines left in Belgium which makes profit. They should start a new company name: "BLM" or "Royal Benelux" (VLM has its mainbases at Antwerp, Rotterdam and Luxemburg (and at Düsseldorf Express)) for example.

Have a look on their site: http://www.vlm-airlines.com

Yes I know, I think London City is important for them as well.

BLM can cause problems since it only works in Flemish/Dutch ( Belgische LuchtvaartMaatschappij ) , that translates something like Compagnie Airièenne Belge in French.
IF they change they should take something everybody will accept and recognize.

Royal Benelux is better I think, or Benelux Airlines maybe ?

But as far as I am concerned, VLM Airlines is fine  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
