I was standing on my back porch in Denver at 11:00am mt, and I heard a loud aircraft flying over head it sounded like a 727. I ran out back looked up and to my surprise it was a United Airlines 727. Whats going on?-Brett

This past wknd, I noticed 11 a/c parked at IND, 3 at ORD, and 1 at DCA.

I believe that some a/c are still operating back-up services.

From what I understand, the 727 were retired in mass numbers. I don't think they are flying REVENUE flights anymore.

Listen Betty, don't start up with your 'White Zone' s*** again.

I saw UAL 727s in ATL and in SLC two weeks ago, parked at gates......there must be some left flying!

They were probably being ferried to Victorville, CA. The 727 is not operating revenue flights at United anymore.

Yeah, two weeks ago the UA 727's were still in service. No more REVENUE service after 10/30. It will take some time before they are all stripped and parked in the desert. Retiring 40 some a/c doesn't just happen overnight.

I must have taken one of the last 727 flights then without realizing it. I flew from BOS to IAD last week. It was interesting that on United's website and itinerary, they didn't list the 727 as the aircraft, the space was just blank. It was a pleasant flight. The plane was clean, hush-kitted, and had the Economy Plus seats added. It didn't look appreciably older than the 757 I returned to BOS on. I actually was in line for check-in with a UAL 727 pilot who was returning home. He said that it had been a great aircraft and could fly faster, landing and taking off from shorter runways than its successor (the 757). My guess would be that its 35% higher fuel burn are what did it in. An end of an era...
