I just tried booking a flight for two on WN in Feb. and the best price i could get from FLL to HOU was$626.00 roundtrip! I tried the same on Delta and it was only $530.00 and no plane change! Am I doing something wrong cause usually WN is cheaper?

I dont think its the number of flights or dates because I usually fly this route 6 or 7 times a year and never paid this kind of fare! This is the first time since 9-11 and I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Thanks Lowfareair but being from S.Florida I still remember ValueJet and even tho AirTran has new planes I will stay with WN or DELTA.

Thumper, true you did say for two tickets, but someone else said Airtran had $200 round trips. It only means that Southwest is seeing enough of an increase in demand that it can go back to some semblance of revenue management and reduce the number of deep discount seats. But I fear this will soon turn into one of those "See, SWA doesn't have any lower fares than the others" discussions.

It would help to know your exact travel dates. Are you by any chance planning to make this trip sometime between Friday, February 8th and Wednesday, Febrary 13?
This would be during Mardi Gras and according to the October 28th schedule all of Southwest's daily flights from HOU-FLL involve a stop or change of planes at MSY.
It may be that the 1st leg from HOU-MSY is filled with people going to Mardi Gras on your outbound flight and the 2nd leg from MSY-HOU is filled with people returning from Mardi Gras on your return flight. Flying Delta or Airtran HOU/IAH to FLL wouldn't involve a stop/change of planes at MSY so maybe that's why they're cheaper.

Southwest is NOT cheap! Its hilarious, they are the most expensive when I need to go to LAX from MSY. I can fly Northwest, Continental, or Delta for a cheaper fare, get an assigned seat, a meal (Depends) and more, etc. They are not that good anymore, especially with Herb gone (A man I admire).

Something similar happened to me here in Europe.
To get from Italy to Amsterdam for the New Year Eve, I checked first on Ryanair to London than to Amsterdam with Easyjet, but I found LH via MUC about 20% cheaper.
That's because it's the Christmas time, so due to the high demand both Ryanair and Easyjet have higher price than usual, but if I buy the same ticket with them for the week before Christmas or after New Year Eve sure I will save 40/50% of the LH cheaper fare.

I am looking at Southwest.com right now.
If this individual could wait and fly back on Saturday the 23rd, you can get the whole shooting match for $350, includes tax, title, and license.
That's their $77 internet special each way per person, plus applicable airport fees and tax. Works out to $175 per person RT.
