I had understood that all of Virgin's 747-200s had been grounded, but when I arrived at LGW on Tuesday morning, a 742 was parked at the south terminal's circular satellite; saw it as I got the train to the North Terminal. How many are still in service and on what routes are they being used?

No. Only G-VGIN, G-VJFK, G-VIRG, G-VLAX, G-VRGN have left and G-VCAT is going to.

G-VBEE is stored at MSE whilst the ex ANZ aircraft are *allegedly* going to Air Atlanta in place of the British Airways classics. G-VRUM is at Dublin being prepared at the moment.

I was attracted to this topic thinking that VS still flies the B742 to Boston. I have flown on this service a couple of times. OAG.com tells me that the route is now being operated by the A340........when did this happen?? What routes are the VS 742 flying on these days

There was a topic a few days ago about VS installing improved cockpit doors on G-VIBE (search for: VS 747 "Spirit Of New York" in this forum). So I guess they'll be keeping some of them.

We have seen G-VZZZ flutter into IAD on a regular basis lately.

I see that Virgin will be sending us the A340 on some days next year… can’t wait!
