Fifth Heathrow terminal set to get green light

The Government is expected to announce it will give the go-ahead for a fifth terminal at Heathrow airport.
Transport secretary Stephen Byers is due to announce his decision on Terminal 5 or T5 to Parliament within 10 days.

Sunday Business reports that Mr Byers is expected to tell MPs this week that the terminal will go ahead.

I'm hardly enthusiastic.

It's just going to become a oneworld terminal which of course, I am totally against, though totally understandable.

I wonder if SIA A380s will be allowed there. Maybe that's a glimmer of hope! In my biased opinion anyway!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I hope they put a really good viwing gallery onto it.

It is very embarassing the state of the current area at T2. it is just not the enthusiasts that go up there, many familes etc are there to wave friends and relatives off and it does not give them a very good welcoming as it looks like it never gets cleaned or any money spent on it.

Surely it is just as important as a arrivals area in terms of PR.

'I'm hardly enthusiastic'-try and see it from the viewpoint of the many unemployed people in this country.

I think in all due respect LHR itself is the most important hub for most alliances. Even though T5 will most likely be taken over entirely by BA and hopefully OneWorld partners, T2 is scehduled to be turned into a STAR Alliance Terminal. Current T2 occupants are scheduled to go to T3 I think.

Honestly they should just bulldoze T4 to the ground.

Better still, bulldoze all the terminals and just build one great big terminal like in Schiphol. LHR is actually quite an embarrassment compared to the rest of Europe's airports.

Great news in a time where good news is in short supply in our industry. Let's just hope everything will be confirmed and the go-ahead will be official.

And then let's hope the third runway will happen, too. Without that, the new terminal does not make much sense...

What's wrong with T4? That's by far my favorite terminal at LHR.

So if T5 will become a oneworld terminal, will AA be relocated from T3? That would be a good thing, I think. Do they have a date set for when the new terminal is expected to be up and functioning?

Yes , I agree that it would be great : only these airlines would be allowed into OneWorld Terminal 5

BA
AA
AY
IB
EI
CX
QF
KL futur BA partner

and of course

KM ex Terminal 4
UL ex Terminal 4

and Singapore_Air don't you think that STAR monopolize Frankfurt with their 15 member airlines... They want to monopolize Heathrow as well but that won't never happen... BMI is going to be a no-frill airline, what a shame for STAR... They are going to loose BMI and then STAR presence at LHR will be less and less...

Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

Wow, they're giving the go-ahead for T5? I thought that so many were against it that it wouldn't happen. Hope they will have a really good spectators area to replace (or in addition to) the current one!!
