Back in August there was a thread on this board discussing the apparently safe year we'd been having in Aviation. Isn't it amazing how much things can change in the course of a couple of months?

Safe compared to other years, no. But aviation is still far safer than driving to the airport. And the only way one can be truly safe is to sit in the middle of a windowless basement seatbelted to a couch bolted to the floor.

If the terrorist attacks had never happened, I'm betting that it would've been a fairly average year in terms of fatalities.
