Air France is going to relaunch its products. Here is what was written in our internal magazine "Concorde". It is not yet official to the public.

L'Espace 180, L'Espace 127, L'Espace le Club, L'Espace Europe, Tempo Challenge, La Navette : Our customers are getting lost with all the brand names.
It is too much and not enough. Too many brands, not unterstood enough.
This is to explain the 4 new steps AF is taking towards simplifycation.
L'Espace 180 is dissapearing to be replaced by L'Espace Première, subtitled First. Same for l'Espace 127, L'Espace Le Club and L'Espace Europe which are to become L'Espace Affaires subtitled Business on all routes.
And the intermediate class, a little of a hybrid, called Tempo Challenge will be named Challenge.
Also flights out of Orly to domestic routes will see the Plein Ciel cabin dissapear and make way to a monoclass Tempo cabin.
AF is investing in 76 new self check-in booths for passengers with no bags.
AF is investing 100 millions FFR to build private lounges and renovate existing ones.
AF is implementing a new system for its customers using CDG as a hub. The 777 and the new A340 are equipped with a video system that will show for the last 40 minutes of the flight all the connexions of passengers present on board with the terminal and gate number, time of departure.
AF is going improve the L'Espace 127 (the l'Espace Affaires name is not official to the public yet) seat with a new leg rest, new video screen arm and a new individual reading light.
AF is going to improve the catering of its Tempo service by giving its customer more choice ( I heard a choice of 3 hot dishes and Ice cream bars, tests with Haagen Dasz were made) and fresher products.
AF is to renovate the harmony of its long-haul and short-haul cabins between July 2000 and July 2001 to offer a more contemporary design, new tableware, more vivacious and "young" colours.
In total AF is spending 1 billion FFR towards improving its products for its customers.
Also AF has invested in a system that allows you to trace your unfortunately lost baggage on its internet site.
AF is introducing the l'Espace Europe, soon to be renamed l'Espace Affaires on its domestic flights out of CDG. The new cabin will be identical to the one on European routes.
Just a few months after launching la Navette on the ORY-BOD flight AF is showing excellent results with its market share going up 10 points with an increase of its traffic by 15%
Air France is negociating a frequent flyer link-up with SAA. The 2 airlines codeshare on the latter routes within southern Africa.
AF and DL are reporting to have captured 17% of the north atlantic market at the same level as the UA-LH couple, and the KL-AZ-NW trio. BA and AA are reporting a 27% share.
Some news about the New Caledonia route.
Presently AF flies to Noumea 4 times a week via Tokyo on a B747-400.
AF projects in the summer 2000 to maintain the actual program and have its partner Air Caledonie International subdued Air Calin operate a twice weekly Noumea -Osaka flight with an A 310-300 and to code share with them.
AF projects for the winter 2000to base an A340 in Noumea to operate a 5 weekly flight program to be able to connect with the NRT-CDG flights. They will keep Air Calin flying to Osaka from Noumea in codeshare and study other possibilities of partnership with Air Calin.

Here are a few "numbers" concerning AF's la navette :
*It is 3 years old.
*14 million passengers were carried since oct.96
*It is 267 daily flights.
*It is 4 routes from Orly to Toulouse, Marseille, Nice and Bordeaux
*It is a third of AF's traffic on its domestic network.
*It's flights have an average load factor of 69%
*It's on-time record is 82%

Happy Flying,

I think that it will be even more confusing now with fewer names for the products. The people connecting from long-haul flights in L'Espace Affaires class to an intra-Europe flight in L'Espace Affaires Class are going to be in for a shock when they discover that there is no personal TV, large footrest, or other great amentities provided such as on their international flight...

Oh well...I'll still fly 'em!!!

Hello,

What about the long-haul first class ? Are they going to improve it again ?

Best regards,

Hi AFa340-300E,

Yes, Air France is going to improve its First class service dramatically.
I can't give you much more precision but to tell you that we are going to reintroduce our old service with the crew cutting lamb chops in front of the passengers. I don't know if we will see Crepes Suzette again but who knows.
More news should come in a couple of months.
The start of the upgrade is to start in July 2000.

Happy Flying,

AF Cabin Crew
