which has already been known to many of us is now being officially confirmed.

SAS Delays Opening of San Francisco Route

As a result of the decline in the number of passengers, SAS has decided to delay the launch of San Francisco as a new destination.

The events in New York on September 11 this year have had a considerable impact on air traffic to and from the US and SAS has now decided to focus primarily on restoring the airline's main market on the American East Coast and in the central US.

It was SAS' ambition to launch a flight route between Copenhagen and San Francisco on May 10, 2002. Plans involved one daily flight in each direction. Market developments will determine when SAS can again start to plan for the introduction of flights to San Francisco.

anyone has a clue on when they would start the service now? perhaps summer 2003?

If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

Hey how many intercontinental flights does SAS have to Africa, Asia and S&N America? I didn't know they were plannning to go to SFO.

SAS only flyis to Asia and North America...
Asia: Tokyo, Beijing, Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi (soon only served by A340's)
North America: Seattle, New York (EWR), Washington, Chicago (served by 767's)

They used to fly to LAX and HKG, but it was not profitable with only 767-300ER. SAS is currently trying to expand, but then 9/11 happened, and those plans have been put on hold.

Perhaps the the SFO route is postponed a year or two, but will SAS start another route instead of SFO? In Asia there have been talks about Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore non-stop.

Just like birdwatching - without having to be so damned quiet!
