New Airline Services To Melbourne?

Hey there, recently on the news it was stated that the Victorian Government had persuaded 5 - 7 new International airlines to start or increase services to Melbourne. Apart from Air Canada & Philippine Airlines, does anyone know who these airlines are & when they will be starting? I have looked at the Melbourne airport website without any luck!

Hows things VH-BZF and Dasa? Well it seems as though Bangladeshi Biman were planning on coming, and that Qatar Air were also planning on doing so but 'm not sure when or if they are now. EVA Air was another airline mentioned, along with Lan Chile awhile ago, but things are very quiet on all fronts.

Hopefully we in MEL will get more service, but it this rate it doesnt look like it

P.S. Does anyone know if Air Canada are still coming to MEL, it isnt looking too good for them financially but ive heard no news?

I thought Air Canada was still coming... but I don't know now.... I was hoping one day we would get Air India here, but I guess I still have to keep on hoping... and I don't think Bangladesh Biman are really going to come to MEL despite the large Bangladeshi population here...

Im good thanx dasa. Well thats what I thought about Bangledeshi but you never know the plans of some. I always wanted a Japanese carier to come to MEL but its never happened. Im sure it could happen. Do you?

AC is still flying to Melbourne - United are doing the pax handling & Qantas are doing the ramp!

I believe SQ are increasing their services?

Now thats all good news, im hoping SQ do increase their services, maybe to 17 times a week, and then to 3 times daily if the demand is there. MEL is a big market for them, and they are a very competitive airline.

What routes do you think Australian Airlines will fly from MEL when they start and where will they be based do you think?

No sign of SQ increasing their services as now there are 14 flights operated by the B744.But it'd be nice to see them do so...afterall Australia is one of their gold mine!

Well SQ are adding 5 flights a week over the Christmas peak so demand must be strong - MEL is the only Australian port where they are doing this.

As for new airlines, some possibilities may be:
Australian Airlines
Biman
Eva Air
JAL
Korean Air (I don't think they come in currently)
Eva

I suppose some airlines into SYD might consider extending their flights, such as Egyptair, SAA, China Eastern etc.

Maybe one or two Sth Pacific carriers that currently avoid MEL?

Actually not just MEL, BNE is also adding flights during the peak season.

Good round up of airlines there, but i suspect we will not see SAA or Korean here. But in saying that, the MEL exposure to SkyTeam is non-existent and needs to be fixed if it wants to make it here. Star and oneworld dominate here, and they need to bring some flights in soon.

When I work, I hope to non-rev on that flight someday. Never beeen to OZ, and wanna party in SYD, plus my uncle lives in MEL.

Wanna know if there's any news about Australian Airlines that is suppose to start oeprations in July 2002. They were suppose to announce their plans by October, but there's still no news yet! Anybody had any idea, like the fleet, livery, destinations served and their hubs?

It seems the fleet will be 763s and the airline will be based in Cairns. With a base up there, it seems highly likely that the first routes will include smaller Japanese cities (Sapporo, Fukuoka etc), Seoul etc.

I am expecting that DPS will become AA territory as well once the airline gets under way.
