Perhaps obvious, but shouldn't the KLIA authorities make contact with Air Atlanta ?

Very interesting find! I'm thoroughly amused.

The three aircraft in question are, from the article: TF-ARM parked in KLIA Bay B61; TF-ARN (white) in KLIA Bay B61; and another TF-ARH (also white) in KLIA Bay M3.

That's on the Icelandic register, they're old Air Atlanta Icelandic frames. I wonder what they're doing there...

The notice is just a procedure.

Sure KUL know who is the owner of those 747s and they are clear that the owner doesn't have the ability and won't pay the amount due.

They are in the process of removing and selling those 747s to third parties (probably the scraper) and they are required by law to give such notice before they can do so.

TF-ARM and TF-ARN are supposed to be owned by GECAS.
I wonder what's the story behind.

I can't find anything to suggest they are owned by anyone other than Air Atlanta Iceland.

I'd hazard a guess - that there is some legal obligation to take provide notice before the aircraft can be seized, as the story hints... publication in a newspaper may seem silly in this day and age, however the law was probably written when newspapers were the cat's pyjamas

TF-ARM, TF-ARN and TF-ARH are not on the Icelandic registry, as far as I can see they were last used by MAS Kargo.

OK, after a bit of digging, ATDB lists the following for each frame:

TF-ARH - operated by MAS until 07/2009. Left Air Atlanta's fleet in 07/2009. Listed as part-out & derelict at KUL.

TF-ARM - operated for MAS 2004-2006, last operated by Saudia until 04/2010. Left Air Atlanta's fleet in 09/2010. Frame listed as stored at KUL.

TF-ARN - operated by MAS 2003-2010, left Air Atlanta's fleet on 02/2010. Frame listed as stored at KUL.

To me it looks as though all three were legally disposed by Air atlanta in 2009/10. Presumably sold to some Malaysian entity, hence they're still at KUL. Now that Malaysian entity may have since gone bust or disappeared, hence the request for the owners to come forward.

Actually what's the SOP for derelict aircraft disposal? Because I've been flying in and out of KUL & those planes have been around since 2010 - 5 years without any action whatsoever.

I am going to KUL and collect them. Will be claiming to be the owner and then fly them out myself. Will they let me? Perhaps I get fuel for free, when telling them that I gonna remove them from their property?

Number one is gonna be the a.net club home, number two gets scrapped beside the cockpit and uppder deck to transform into a cool sim and number three is gonna be my house. Sounds like a plan... ^^

ARH is going nowhere, it is actually holding the tarmac down in place. ARH also looks like it started the break-up phase and then everything stopped. The other two have not moved since I got here in 2010, tires probably have more flat spots than Romain Grosjean Lotus.

I recently misplaced my 747s, but alas, I wasn't in Malaysia last time I saw them.
