As some of you may know, an Airport Hotel has been on the drawing board for DEN since before it opened.

Since the September 11 attacks, it was in danger of being shelved. However, they plan to continue on with it.

Here is the Press Release from Denver Business Journal:

City revs up plans for DIA hotel

A planned Westin hotel at Denver International Airport -- in jeopardy in the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks -- is back on the city's drawing board again.

Denver International Airport will finance and own the 528-room, $105 million hotel; no tax dollars will be used in its construction, city officials said.

Two months after the proposed hotel was in danger of being shelved in the attack aftermath, Mayor Wellington Webb said the hotel is "needed" and "essential" at DIA.

"As one of the busiest international airports, there is a proven market for a hotel now and in the future," Webb said in a statement.

The hotel would be managed and operated by Starwood Hotel and Resorts, which owns the Westin chain.

About one-third of the hotel has been designed and design should be complete in another six are seven months. Construction will then take two years.

City officials said about 85 percent of lodgers will be airport arrivals and the rest will be local arrivals.

Other plans for DEN are to build a High-Speed Rail system that connects Downtown Denver with Denver Int'l Airport (DEN) in under 30 minutes.

Regards.

P.S. Don't you think 528 rooms is pushing it?
