I am interested in what passengers prefer flying on and why. I think that four engined jetliners are better for very long range flights b/c they dont have to comply with etops rules.

Business travelers prefer the 777 for it's speed so they can pick an earlyer connection to their final destination.
Cabin is more quiet too.

If you want to look at it from the passenger point of view, it doesn't matter really. It 's rather a question of which airline you would prefer. It's the airline that decides on important things like legroom, service, connecting flights etc.
I fly long-haul services quite often, using both 744 and A340 (until now, no 777, though this is sheer coincidence) and to me it's only the choice of airline!

Andreas

I know it's only VfB but I like it!

It is said that in flights exceeding 10.000 KMs,a four-engine is better.
B747 or A340 are the workhorses of such flights !!!

Having flown neither the A340 nor the 777 there ´s only one possibility left for me to vote i.e.the 744 although I ´d love to take both the A340 and 777 and that´s what I´m really wanting do in the near future.

I think all of them are great a/c and as has been mentioned numereous times here it depends pretty much on the airline´s cabin layout & seat arrangement rather than the a/c itself.

Regards

I've never flown on board A340 yet, but A330 is a great plane.

Between B747 and B777, B747 wins hands down.......

My fave is the 747 400, a very close second is the 340 ( which I fly very frequently) and then the 777

Apparently there are different surveys, which show, that either one or the other aircraft is preferred by this and that user.

But I never knew, that there already surveys, which show, that the B777 is preferredover the A340-600 because of its speed. If the user called "Yqfca" please could post the URL to that survey, that would be superb.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Anyway, it depends on the airline, and of course the personal preference. The only known fact, which can be measured, is, that the A340 is quieter, than the B777.

744.

I usually fly SQ to/from SFO. F seats on 744 (SQ 1/2 via HKG) are nicer than those on A340 (SQ 15/16 via ICN).

I feel that there are few people who share the same thought to me as SQ.2 to SFO usually filled up first before SQ.16 from my experience. Often time, I would get a seat on SQ 16 easily, but will have stay on the waitlist for SQ.2 and quite often didn't get on it.

G'day

There's people flying them all, my guess is this is not for show but each A/C type must have advantages for a given task, else it is hard to justify owning and flying them all.

I have flown on all of these several times each on the Atlantic

The A330/340 have the best economy-class cabin I have ever been in. Just lovely.

777 and upper deck of 747 are also great

I would agree mostly with that survey, however the A340 and the 777 cruise at the same speed, and the 744 is faster than both of them.

Although I prefer the 744, I LIKE ALL 3!

I may be in the minority here but I find the 777, especially in Economy class, very cluttered and rather uncomfortable particularly in the 2-5-2 (or worse 3-4-3)configuration. I have been on MH, EK, CX and SQ, and only on SQ's 3-3-3 is it bearable. If possible, I would always choose a 747 or A340 over a 777 on longhauls.
