Mesa Air Group Announces First Frontier Airlines Codeshare Cities

PHOENIX, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mesa Air Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MESA - news) announced today that it will begin serving San Jose, Calif., and Houston in partnership with Denver-based Frontier Airlines, Inc. (Nasdaq: FRNT - news) as Frontier JetExpress beginning Feb. 17, 2002. San Jose will mark a new Frontier destination and in Houston, Mesa will supplement Frontier's existing service. Frontier JetExpress will be operated with 50-seat Canadair Regional Jets, a commercial derivative of the popular Challenger executive jet. Mesa will operate three trips per weekday to San Jose International Airport and two trips to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Our relationship with Frontier provides us with a great opportunity to expand our regional jet flying,'' said Jonathan Ornstein, Chairman and CEO of Mesa Air Group. ``We are currently in discussions with a number of cities to expand our service. We plan to have seven regional jets in service for Frontier by the end of 2002.''

``Frontier's partnership with Mesa Airlines gives us the ability to introduce our legendary spirit of the west service and affordable fares to new customers and expand to destinations that are more efficiently served by regional jet aircraft,'' said Frontier President and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Potter. ``This codeshare agreement is a very positive step for both airlines and we are pleased to team up with Mesa Air Group.''

The San Jose service will be launched with a special low introductory price to Denver of $199 each way and will accompany the flexible and low-fare structure to which passengers are accustomed from Frontier. The introductory fare, which does not require advance purchase, will be available during the first 30 days of service and is subject to availability.

Finally they announce destinations, but did you see the SJC-DEN intro fare? $199! Ouch!

Good to hear.

However, I'm a little confused about DEN-IAH.

According to Frontier Airline's website, there will be 2 daily DEN-IAH flights. HOWEVER, there will be 2 daily IAH-DEN flights PLUS 1 daily flight except on Saturdays.

So thats 2 flights for DEN-IAH, but 3 flights for IAH-DEN.

Doesn't make sense.

Anyone have any explanation?

Also, will these Mesa Air CRJs have there own "Frontier JetExpress" livery? Or will it be the regular Mesa-Air livery?

Well...Frontier already serves DEN -- IAH route with 737s. They upgrade the 737-200s to -300s and put the CRJs on them as well. Check Frontier's website for exact schedules.
